Rules of behavior on the water

In the summer, we are all drawn to the water - it is quite natural and very useful. But, alas, the water does not always give us pleasure. To ensure that our rest is not overshadowed, we need to know how to behave properly in case of force majeure.

When we enter the water, we should not only know how to swim well, but also clearly realize what can be dangerous in the water, and what not to be afraid of.

Indeed, it is because of our ignorance that there is often a fear of what seems to us a hopeless battle with the elements. Sometimes we are horrified ...

But if we know how to behave properly and be able to control ourselves, we can avoid many unpleasant situations.

What we are afraid of, first of all, when we sail away from the coast, is, of course, a seizure. Since childhood we have been told about them, they say, do not swim to where deep, but suddenly ... In fact, no "suddenly" does not happen!

Let's understand: convulsions are an involuntary painful contraction of the muscles that have become - allegedly - the cause of the death of many people. This is nonsense, just forget it and do not wind yourself. Cramps occur not only in the water, they can cause any awkward or sharp movement. Just on land they do not frighten us. But in the water we only think about them, how they would suddenly not have begun, by the way, which very often provokes them.

Do not be afraid of cramps! If you felt during the voyage that brought your foot (most often the calf muscle), but you are calm, cramps do not frighten you.

You just need to take a deep breath, take the pose of the float (it's also called the barrel pose , that is, immerse the head in water so that only your back is visible on the surface), then take hold of the foot and fingers of the jointed leg and pull them toward you. Then try to completely relax your leg and swim, without loading that leg, which is brought, while actively working with your hands.

After the seizures, the second place "in horror stories", connected with water, is occupied by whirlpools and funnels . Unfortunately (or, conversely, fortunately?), The general public often has a completely wrong idea of their origin. Funnels, which can be a danger for you during swimming, are formed only next to hydraulic structures, and there, as you know, it is forbidden to swim. As for whirlpools, they are extremely rare in our rivers. They are formed most often over any underwater obstacles - a large stone or tree, behind bridge supports, behind a rocky promontory near a concave bank. Depending on the strength of the current, the whirlpools are stronger or weaker. But even the strongest will not be able to delay you. If you swim well (this does not mean that you are a CCM or a master of sports in swimming, it is meant, it's good for an amateur), you will easily overcome the whirlpool if you go with the flow and do not stop.

And one more, probably, our strongest phobia is a thicket of algae . The main thing here is to keep oneself in hand. With algae is very easy to cope, just do not wind it yourself and not give vent to fantasy, thinking that they can be life-threatening. For example, ribbon-like algae, such as sedge, often grow on shallow places that can be crossed on foot. If you are greeted by thickets of lilies or water lilies, the stems of which go right up to the bottom, and their plexus hampered the movements of your hands, stay afloat, help yourself with your feet, draw air, lower your head into the water and calmly, without panic, free your hands.

Another good tip is to learn how to rest on the water, for this, lying on your back, pull out straight relaxed hands behind your head, which must be immersed in the water to the level of eyebrows. If this is not enough and the legs begin to fall down, stick out the fingers or hands and the feet will immediately float. Your body will assume a position of horizontal balance.

Lying on your back, take a deep breath and hold your breath for 5-10 seconds, then exhale slowly and inhale quickly again.

It is useful to master the technique of rest so that when you start to be nervous about something during the voyage, you can just relax and rest. And then, coming to, to return to the shore.

All the above tips how to cope with unforeseen circumstances - for lovers of extreme, because in places intended for swimming, no algae, no whirlpools, no funnels. But, when we decide to swim in unfamiliar waters for us, we must always be psychologically and physically ready for any surprises. It is very important to learn to control yourself in unforeseen circumstances, just do not let fear take control of yourself. At the moment of a panic attack, try to convince yourself that once you calm down and get ready, it will be much easier for you to understand the situation.

Be careful and take care!
