How to quickly get a second higher education

The second education is called the same word as the first one, but in essence it is fundamentally different processes with different results. Choosing and receiving a second education, a person is guided by completely different considerations and motivations than the 17-year-old entrant. What are these motives, is it justified whether the desire to again cross the threshold of the university, how to avoid mistakes made in youth, and how quickly to get a second higher education - the topics of our conversation today.

Charm of stereotypes
Discontent with their current profession and the desire to get another can be due to several reasons. The most common is the mistaken choice of the first. A 16-to-17-year-old youth who ponders life is hard to understand what he wants to do in the next 40 to 50 years. Well, if there is any bright gift - an ideal musical ear, an indomitable love for animals that you want to drag into the house, treat and care for, or golden hands, thanks to which there is not a single broken household appliance in the house. If there is no obvious talent, the boys and girls make the decision, guided by the typical: "Seryozhka went there, and I'll go!"; "All lawyers earn well"; "My mother has communications at this university."

Parents, showing foresight and insisting that the child received a "prestigious" specialty, in fact, do children a disservice. "Most people of the older generation are convinced: you need to choose a profession that will help you find a place in life. This legacy is "scoop". The idea that reflects liberal values sounds different: find your own business, and then you will become successful. This is the most productive strategy: determine your strengths and maximize your own potential.

In the search will help , for example, training on social adaptation - now they already exist. You can talk with a psychologist at the Employment Center, read the volume "The choice of profession" of the children's encyclopedia of the publishing house "Avanta" ... The main thing is to spend time and effort on the search, rather than being guided by the parents' desires or stereotypes gleaned from Hollywood movies, like "a lawyer is cool guy in an expensive suit. " Many applicants wonder how quickly to get a second higher education?

Alas, events often unfold precisely according to the "soviet" scenario, so there is a clear overproduction of lawyers, marketers, and economists in the country. For example, according to the Ministry of Education, today more than half a million people receive the specialty "economist" (the entire student contingent is 2 million 700 thousand). And this despite the fact that the specialty "economist" as such is never listed in the requests of employers - at least, the director of CIS countries recruiting company World Staff Vitaly Mikhailov never had to deal with such a request. As a result, freshly released economists and marketers work as secretaries or supply managers. And for years to 28 - 30 they realize that we have to do something, because in the mornings we do not just want to go to work, but we do not want to excruciatingly. "Experiencing the early existential crisis, asking yourself the question:

"Who am I in my 30 years , and what are my prospects?" "- feeling that life is gray and joyless, people often decide to change the situation by changing the sphere of activity. But there is a danger of making the wrong decision. The choice is dangerous to make on the energy of flight, when another earth inevitably seems like paradise. It is better not to hurry and how to properly understand yourself. How can you understand that this is your business? The key moment is that life becomes more interesting, something is lit up inside, enthusiasm is emerging, prospects are opened ... It's not worth changing jobs because they are supposed to pay better for another, you will sooner or later rush into the same dead end. " By the way, recently two women came to the "LJ" editorial board, embodying the wrong choice, based on stereotypes and false motives: mother and daughter, both graduated from accelerated journalism courses at one of the private universities. The daughter studies there in the International Economic Department, mother by education as a philologist, but for many years she was a housewife. Both are delighted with the prospect of becoming glossy journalists, but judging by the materials they offered the editor-in-chief, they do not have the slightest information for this. Education, for which they laid out for five thousand hryvnia, was a completely mediocre waste of time and money.

Calling a Friend

Asking myself how quickly to get a second higher education, sometimes the change of profession does not follow the principle "from the opposite", but because the person has achieved the maximum in his business, feels the potential for something completely different - and abruptly turns around, living two professional lives instead of one. For example, actress Elena Drapeko ("A Dawns Here Are Quiet", "Lonely Dormitory Is Given," "Window to Paris") in 1996 went into politics, and for 10 years continuously elected a deputy of the State Duma. Alexandra Yakovleva ("Wizards", "Crew") occupies a very unexpected position of Deputy Director General of the Directorate of High-Speed Communications of the Russian Railways.

But this successful option "it was good, but it will be even better" is not worth discussing - you can only applaud and envy. On the agenda are more unpleasant events. You are sick, the business you gave years, fed up, you want something different. Or maybe it threatens to be dismissed from the reduction of staff, and it is clear that you will not find a well-paid place in your former profession. We need to understand, first, what the soul is for, and secondly, what are your chances of succeeding in the new business.

How to do it?

1. Remember, in what situations you were at the height, were satisfied with themselves. Think about what your talents were included at that moment, perhaps in crisis situations. Write out your positive sides on the leaflet, reread it more often. Concentrating on good experience, start with great respect and sympathy to treat yourself, appreciate what you did not think about before.

2. Talk to people who know you well. Ask them to tell you what you are good at, what qualities they particularly value. And then - which, they think, is your weak point. Best of all, if each statement they illustrate a situation. Do not argue, just listen. You will surely learn a lot of new things that are not consistent with your idea of yourself, and that's fine. Now think about where your strong qualities are in demand. For example, the ability to lay everything on the shelves (finance or jurisprudence) or sincere goodwill (working with people, from kindergarten to politics).

3. Send a resume to different companies and get as many interviews as possible. Professional HR (HR manager), even in a normal conversation, can analyze your talents and work experience and give good advice. It is even better to find a familiar eichar and ask him to give you time to consult. Being guided by your personal qualities, he can draw a conclusion: the sales sphere does not suit you, but you can try yourself in accounting ...

4. Think about what kind of professional experience you have and in what areas, besides your own, you can apply it. For example, you are an IT specialist, but in your company were engaged in the creation of projects. So, you are not just a system administrator, but also a project specialist. If you are a deputy chief accountant, you have the skills of a manager, and possibly an IT specialist, since many firms maintain computer accounting.

Expanding competence (mastering new activities complementing the former) is useful beyond any doubt. The administrator who has mastered the accounting department, or the glossy journalist who passed the reporter training, only acquire and expand the potential areas of activity, nothing, without losing. But if you decide to abruptly change the tack, you need to carefully weigh all the pros and cons. Alla Konyaeva, the manager of the psychological service of the recruiting company Ancor SW, is convinced: to think about changing the profession is only if you have not achieved anything in the former. If you are a class specialist, you must first carefully weigh your motivations. "A female lawyer comes to me and says:" I feel that people are interested in me, I am thinking about changing the kind of activity. Maybe, to study psychology? "So, I've been reading fashion books on the topic of" searching for myself. " You need to find yourself, it's not a question. But who said that it is necessary to change the profession? My client is an excellent lawyer with deep knowledge in this field. By the age of 30 she has already had an unavoidable professional deformation, a picture of the world has emerged, in which, say, everything written on paper, one must at least know how to maximally consider it true. The psychologist she wants to become has a completely different picture of the world! He knows that there are five different points of view for any problem, in any person there are five different subpersonalities, and there is no one "correct" point of view, there is not one "main" subpersonality! So, professional deformation is one.

Two: this woman has serious ambitions. It is necessary that she understands: when entering someone else's professional party, she gets to the lowest level. And it is not a fact that even after 10 years she will be able to occupy the position she already had when she was a lawyer. This is very important: get rid of euphoria and really assess your prospects. And, finally, three. I am convinced that at the heart of such throwings, women usually have a motive that has nothing to do with the profession. Namely - the need for recognition, the desire to win the respect of a certain reference group, for example, friends who have reached a high status, or, more often, men. If the spouse keeps telling you that journalism is an occupation for loafers who do not know how to talk, but its accounting and audit is an important and necessary thing, one must understand: even having studied at the auditor, even having achieved some successes, you still do not achieve the respect of her husband. Because, devaluing your profession, it depreciates you, your personal, not professional qualities. You do not need the advice of an echar, but the help of a psychologist.

The main thing is to realistically assess the situation. Include alternative thinking. If you said to yourself: "My work is boring to me," try to have alternative thoughts. For example: "It's not in the work, but in the fact that I have problems in the family." Or: "It's not in the work, but in the fact that my boss discriminates against women, and I'm no longer a girl to be pushed around." And so on. There should always be many different views on any situation. Even how you cook borscht. Then life will become much more interesting, and unexpectedly attractive faces will appear in a bored profession.

Bookcase with books

Having decided on the choice of the sphere in which you want to try your hand, you need to choose the way of teaching a new case: full-time or correspondence courses in the university, courses, seminars. According to Alla Konyayeva, between the choice of the university and the success of the career in the last 20 years, the connection is broken: successful marketers are obtained from journalists, philologists and psychologists, financial directors - from physicists and mathematicians: "Mathematical education is a system of thinking, mastering a mathematical apparatus, and accounting three-month courses are just a mere appendage to these fundamentals. " The only exception to the rule is that professions that require "long" knowledge that can not be mastered in a few months: translators, doctors, lawyers, psychologists. By the way, about legal education, employers have a strong opinion: the best "lawyers" are those who graduated from the Yaroslav the Wise National Law Academy in Kharkov or the law faculty of national universities in Kiev and Lviv. Other specialists do not impose such stringent requirements.

The higher the level of the university, the more difficult it was to learn in it, that is, the higher the standards of education, the easier it will be to succeed - this is a universal truth, and in our country it also works.

Having decided with the specialty and university, you need to immediately look for ways to find employment in a new specialty, even if for little money or without money at all. Only practice can confirm the correctness of your choice. And the knowledge acquired in the university should be treated not as a truth in the last instance, but as a scheme of thinking adopted in this field of activity. Perceive training as an interesting game, then knowledge is quickly absorbed and easier to translate into real skills.

If we are talking about business specialties, then the most common option is MBA (business school), the standard of education that came to us from the West. MBA students are people with higher education and managerial experience. The two best business schools in Ukraine are MIMKiev and Kyiv-Mohyla Business School. Both have a long history and a solid teaching staff. The most important knowledge can be gleaned from literature - both classical textbooks and modern articles. Otherwise, even the best specialist in a few years will lose his professional competence and will be forced out of the market. But the buzz from self-development and self-learning - not to mention the recognition and appreciation of the authorities - can justify all the moral and material costs of acquiring a second education.
