Henna - a natural hair colorant

The most harmless dye for hair is henna - a natural dye of natural origin. Its main component is the leaves of the laurel plant, which are initially dried, then ground to a powdery state. Substances contained in the dye, act on the uppermost layers of the hair, thereby not injuring the internal structure. There are many varieties of henna: from colorless to color with a variety of shades.

Each of us heard stories about the beauty of oriental women. It was in the east many centuries ago that women used hair dyes of natural origin for hair care. The most popular and invariable leaders among them were henna and basma. Since these two substances not only give the hair a particular shade, but also look after them. The paint contains useful tannins, which nourish the scalp, they fasten the hair scales, giving the hair shine. Very useful hair masks with henna, they are easy to prepare and convenient for home use. It helps the coloring of henna in the summer, when artificial dyes quickly burn out in the sun, henna, on the contrary, will delight you for a long time with rich and shiny hues.

Another advantage of henna in comparison with conventional hair dyes is low price. All these are the virtues of henna, just do not forget that she, like any other substance, has flaws.

Before using henna, you need to know some of the characteristics of the dye.

Colored henna is the most suitable for dark hair: from light chestnut to black. To avoid an extremely bright shade, do not advise using such a henna for light hair. For blondes colorless Henna is perfect - her hair does not stain, but it perfectly nourishes the scalp, prevents dandruff, makes hair voluminous and strong.

You can use the dye more than once a month. In no case do not use henna on clarified, dyed and hair after a chemical wave of hair. The natural dye does not fit well with artificial substances, and the result can be very sad. Colors can result from acid orange to green.

How to properly prepare the mixture for coloring

When using henna, there are some tricks. For example, the coloring pigment is extracted most intensively from henna in an acidic medium. The optimum acidity is 5.5, you can get such a medium by adding a little kefir, lemon juice or white wine to the paint. To get the desired shade, you can add turmeric or a pre-filtered broth of chamomile to get a golden-sunny tone, beet juice for a red shade, coffee or black tea for chocolate overflows.

When starting to color, first you need to wash your hair without using conditioner or balm. Then apply the dyeing compound to damp hair, for its preparation we dilute henna powder in hot water until a creamy mass is formed. We keep the mixture on the hair for 20 minutes or more, depending on the desired shade (the more time the composition is on the hair, the more saturated the shade) and wash the hair without shampoo.

Stylists against staining henna

Stylists oppose the use of henna for several reasons: after staining with henna it is impossible to change the color of the hair (no dye will cope with this task), dyed hair can only be sheared; because of the tannins in the composition of henna hair becomes stiff, which makes it very difficult to create a styling or hairstyle. Although at first the hair looks dense and voluminous, but after a long period of use, the hair becomes so stiff and heavy that it begins to fall out. All of the above - the negative side, use henna or not - you decide.
