How to achieve flowering of orchids in the home

Orchids - plants are quite complex in culture, requiring special conditions and often occupying quite a lot of space. Nevertheless, these plants remain very popular among florists because of their amazing colors. But to make an orchid blossom is a difficult task for a beginner florist. Let's try to figure out what factors determine the frequency of flowering of these plants and how to achieve flowering of orchids in the home.

The first and most significant factor affecting the flowering of orchids is the length of a light day. For each species of orchids, there is a certain length of daylight, allowing the plant to optimally spend the flowering period - to develop flower buds fully, to open and pollinate flowers and, finally, to give seeds. Therefore, the arrival of the season with a light day of the required duration serves as a signal for the plant to plant flower buds. Such kidneys are invisible in the case, they will become visible only when the orchid begins to actively develop the flower stem.

Between the bookmark of flower buds and the beginning of the growth of the peduncle can take quite a long time, because if you want to achieve the flowering of the orchid, you should be patient. But if the flower-bud has already begun active development, it will continue to grow even further, even if the length of the light day changes somewhat.

It should be borne in mind that in order for floral buds to be planted, two different sets of conditions are necessary for them to move into growth. The set of such conditions depends on the type of orchid. For example, for many plants, a drastic restriction of watering can be the trigger for flowering. For others, the content should be kept in conditions of a long day of light during the bookmarking of flower buds, and then - a sharp transition to a short light day in order to start the active growth of peduncles.

If your orchid is an artificially created hybrid, then the set of conditions necessary for its flowering will be determined by the original species, when crossing, and this hybrid was obtained.

Most often, orchids need a longer light day than the one that is typical of our latitudes, so they may need to lighten up. For this purpose, you should use special lamps that give a lot of light without overheating the air around the orchid. Such lamps can be purchased at specialized flower shops.

Many growers successfully achieve the flowering of orchids at home, regulating the amount of moisture received by the plant.

In nature, epiphytic orchids determine the optimal time for flowering in the amount of precipitation. The onset of a "dry" period in the habitats of these plants often coincides with the period of activity of insects that pollinate their flowers.

When growing orchids in the home, the offensive of this period can easily be simulated by slightly shortening watering.

For this reason, newcomers who plant their plants on southern windows, orchids bloom more often and more willingly. This is facilitated by a high level of illumination, changes in daily temperatures and periodic "glitches" in the schedule of their watering.

The most difficult thing is to make the orchids that come from the mountain regions bloom, where the dry period is practically absent. (For example, in room culture, miltoniopsis is very popular for this group of orchids.) Because of such natural conditions, such orchids prefer to reproduce vegetatively, because the flowering period is weak in them.

Over-watering is the most common mistake of beginning orchid breeders. Such treatment at best leads to an active vegetative development of orchids, to the detriment of the laying of flower buds, and at worst - to decaying the roots and death of the whole plant. In plants that are abundantly watered during vegetation, you can often find shrunken flower buds - you can find such plants in supermarkets.

If you get a faded or not yet flowering orchid, be sure to find out its type and grade - it is the basic information that determines the conditions of the content, and therefore - helps to achieve the flowering of your new plant. The appearance of the orchid is difficult to accurately determine its appearance and even more difficult - a variety, and this can create significant difficulties for you when caring for your new pet.

Do not forget that many orchids can bloom twice a year, for example popular and unpretentious in the phalaenopsis culture. To ensure that such plants are not depleted, provide them with proper care and top dressing during the growing season.
