How to water properly

Almost 75% of all failures in the cultivation of indoor plants comes from the inability to properly water them. It only seems that there is nothing complicated in irrigation. Check yourself: do you follow the most important rules.

1. Water the plants only with warm water.

Water, which has a temperature of about 0 degrees, enters the root 7 times slower than water at room temperature. Even sick plants, if they are watered with warm water (20-25 degrees), will recover. Particularly damaging watering with cold water in summer, in the heat.

2. Water for irrigation should be soft.

Excess water content of calcium salts and calcareous salts for plants is fatal. Because of this, the level of acidity (pH) changes in the soil, and thin coatings of salts appear in the form of white crystals on the leaves and walls of the pot. Raiders interfere with the normal processes of gas exchange and photosynthesis.

On the eve of watering, always allow the water to settle. Remove the raids (every 15 days) from the soil, the walls of pots, from the leaves.

3. Do not fill and do not overdry plants!

Failures in the maintenance of houseplants, even unpretentious ones, are usually associated with overflow or underflow. Both are dangerous for plants.

Here you need to approach each plant individually. However, there are several general rules:

In the period of active growth of the plant watering is intensified, in the rest period - we reduce.

In the summer we water more abundantly and more often .

Sick plants, just transplanted, with thin, not fully developed roots, in a large pot, growing in clay soil, watered moderately and cautiously.

Scant irrigation requires succulents (cacti, agaves, aloe, sedomas, lithopses) and deciduous plants leaving for a period of rest.

Moderate watering is required for plants with fleshy or pubescent leaves (senpolia, peralia, columbney), succulent tubers (chlorophytum, asparagus), with powerful rhizomes and thick roots (dracenes, cordillins, sansevieri, palm trees, arid), onion (zefirantes). They are not watered immediately after the drying of the soil, but only 1-2 days after its additional drying.

Plentiful watering is loved by tropical plants with soft, soft, thin leaves (adiantums, ferns, fittones). Some plants with leathery leaves (citrus, coffee, gardenia, camellia) and do not withstand drying. They are watered immediately after the drying of the earth.

4. Water often, but little by little!

It is necessary to thoroughly soak all the soil - the water should pour out onto the pallet. After 30 minutes, you need to drain the water from the drip tray. Leave it there is impossible to avoid decaying the roots.

Some plants are watered from the pallet: tulips, cyclamen, other bulbous and tuberous, which quickly rot, if they "pour". However, the water in the pan can not be left for long. The drip tray must be deep enough for water to be sufficient for irrigation.
