Proper care for indoor plants

In the coldest time of the year, a special approach is needed for indoor plants: moderate watering, air humidification and lack of drafts. Proper care of indoor plants will help any woman in the future enjoy the beautiful flowers in her cozy window.

It happens that the flowers that all spring, summer and autumn pleased you with the riot of colors, in the winter "they announce a strike". Well, this is understandable: the conditions in which they grow have become less favorable. Light has become less, the batteries dry the air, and the earth in the pots dries faster. Flowers like to water more often, but because of this they are facing another trouble: the plants begin to grow actively, but they do not have enough light. Therefore, for the "greenhouse" to successfully winter, plants should be given a rest and create the most proper care for indoor plants.

To water or not?

That's why in winter, watering plants should be reduced. The rule says: flowers should be poured with lukewarm water once every 8-10 days. But this rule does not fit all plants.

Plants that should be watered rarely (every three to four weeks): cacti and other succulents.

Plants requiring moderate watering (every 10 days): almost all ornamental plants.

Plants that need to be watered often enough (every 6-8 days): most flowering plants.

Plants that require waterlogged soil (the land should always be wet): azalea, ayr, cyperus, clematis.

At the same time, almost all plants in winter should be sprayed (except for flowers with pubescent leaves), rinsed under the shower, and most importantly - to perform the so-called "dry watering" - to loosen the soil in pots to allow air to penetrate to the roots. With proper care for indoor plants, your home will acquire a different special energy.

Do not freeze!

Put the pots with plants as close as possible to the window panes, and if possible - add additional lighting using portable fluorescent lamps. Just do not push the pots too close together - the air should circulate freely between the leaves. Plants "love" fresh air, so regularly ventilate the room in which they "live". But keep in mind that for all colors, sudden temperature changes are dangerous. Therefore, ventilating the room, remove the pots from the plants away from the draft.

Flowers on a diet?

Experienced growers for proper care of indoor plants advise: in winter, house plants are better not to feed - mineral fertilizers (especially those containing nitrogen) are now poorly digested and can even cause the death of roots! But at the same time, each rule has its own exceptions. Indoor plants that grow actively year-round (especially if they are large in size) - monsters, ficuses, palms, hibiscuses - can and should be fertilized. Do this once a month and use 1/3 of the dose indicated on the package with fertilizers. Also, do not "plant a diet" plants that are blooming or are about to bloom. Baluy them 1-2 times a month 1/2 dose of fertilizers for flowering plants, diluted in a small amount of warm water. Pay attention that the composition of this fertilizer must necessarily include phosphorus, boron and potassium.

Any landlady knows , or at least should know, that houseplants do not like when the owner mistreats them, forgets to water, or on rare occasions remembers watering flowers, but does not want to do it. Have in view of, that all house plants do not like such, and simply, can simply not get on in your house. It is worth remembering forever, especially those housewives who like to forget about watering and fertilizers for flowers.
