Allergies to houseplants

Indoor plants are able to bring great aesthetic pleasure, they enrich the air in the room with oxygen, phytoncids, essential oils, which means they improve health and help fight microbes, bacteria and viruses. However, it should be noted that not for every person the presence of indoor plants is safe. Those people who are prone to allergic reactions, have problems in choosing the right houseplant. Some plants are considered safe, because until there was no appearance of allergic reactions after contact with them.

Manifestations of an allergy

In the rhythm of everyday life, sometimes you can begin to excruciate a dry cough, it can also appear without a cause of a runny nose, eyes may be watering or the skin may be itchy. There are other symptoms that are characteristic of an allergic reaction.

Allergy to houseplants can sometimes deliver a slight inconvenience, which quickly passes, but it happens that it is delayed. In the worst case, an allergy can cause a short-term, but severe deterioration in the general condition of the human body. It happens that running allergies can cause other diseases, for example, asthma.

The most common form of allergy is respiratory allergic. This group includes allergic reactions of various parts of the respiratory tract. At the heart of the emergence and development of such diseases are allergic reactions of both immediate type and delayed.

With this form of allergy, the entire tract or its individual areas can be affected. The site of the lesion determines the form of allergosis. As a rule, three types are distinguished:

Allergic tracheobronchitis

Such allergosis manifests itself in the form of bouts of dry nausea cough, usually at night. This disease lasts a long time and flows undulating.

Allergic laryngitis

This kind of allergosis, as a rule, also develops at night and manifests itself in the form of Krupa syndrome, ie, anxiety, barking cough, labored breathing, cyanosis of the nasolabial triangle and lips.

Allergic rhinosinusitis

Three types of allergosis are distinguished in this type:

Such types of allergies usually have the following clinical picture: sneezing attacks, mucous membrane of the soft palate and nose, edema and burning sensation in the nose, eustachyte phenomena, liquid abundant discharge from the nose, uncomfortable sensations in the eye, that is, the puffiness of the eyelids.

With seasonal allergies, there is often general malaise, drowsiness, irritability, headache, and occasionally slightly elevated body temperature.

Very often, such an allergy presages the development of bronchial asthma.

Quite often, the following plants cause an allergic reaction:

No allergic reactions were observed when contacting plants from the following families: Bromeliads, Heathers, Commelinaceae, Begonievs, Palms (palm trees Trachicarpus, Carioca), Balsaminovs.

This is probably due to the fact that these plants need high air humidity, and this reduces the amount of suspended particles in the air.
