Houseplant "love tree"

The genus Aichrizon contains about 15 species of perennial and annual succulent plants belonging to the Krasslova family. Distributed in the Canary, Madeira and Azores. This plant is popularly called the "tree of love". The leaves are fuzzy, mostly opposite, dark green in color at the ends of stems, which are straight, partially branched. Shields or panicles have star-shaped flowers of red or yellow color.

Care of the plant.

The house plant "love tree" loves diffused bright light, which can be created with the help of a curtain or simple brand. The plant "tree of love" (aihrizon) is better to grow on the western or eastern window. If the plant is grown on a southern window, then care must be taken to reduce shading. In autumn and winter, you do not need to shade the plant from direct sunlight, nevertheless, you need to monitor the plant so that there are no sunburn. In order for the plant to grow at regular intervals, it should be periodically turned to light by different sides.

In the spring and summer, the optimum temperature for the cultivation of an ayrrzona is 20-25 degrees. In the autumn-winter period, the optimum temperature is 10 degrees. If the temperature is above optimal, the shoots will begin to stretch, and the leaves will fall off. Near the heating devices, the aichrone grows poorly.

In the spring-summer season the plant is watered regularly, while the substrate in the pot must dry out only half the height of the pot. In winter, the plant is watered less often so that the leaves do not wrinkle or fade.

Find out when you need to water, you can use the following way: with your palm, lightly press on the crown of the plant and if it springs, it means to water early, if it feels lethargic, then it's time to water the plant.

Aihrizron ("tree of love") should be watered in small portions, because if the substrate is completely dry, then abundant watering will lead to decay of the base of shoots and roots.

The plant tolerates dry air well, but periodically it is advised to wash it under warm water. In autumn and winter, do not wash the plant.

Top dressing is carried out by a complex fertilizer in spring and summer once in 14 days.

Fertilizer should be with a small content of nitrogen for succulent plants.

Aihrizon can be grown both in the form of a stump tree, and in the form of a bush. During the vegetation period, to form a beautiful crown, the tips of young shoots should be plucked (you can also cut out weak shoots). It happens that in winter the plant is stretched, then it is renewed with the help of rooting cuttings or by pruning.

Blossoming of an ayrzorin begins in the spring, under condition of rare watering, a close pot, light and cool wintering for the second or third year. Blossoms an ayrrizone for more than 6 months. During this period, the plant may fall to about 80% of the leaves. As the bloom is over, the peduncles are cut off, and watering increases. After a while, the plant will have new shoots. It may take a little pruning to shoot if the aichrone is heavily flown.

On different forums the opinion is placed that after the aijrizon has faded, it perishes, but some florists continue to grow the ayurizon after flowering, and, moreover, successfully. Some, proceeding from this opinion right after flowering, because of fear of death of a plant, begin to pluck out the buds of flower stalks. Also, you can pre-cut cuttings, which put a label "for rooting."

As necessary, for example, when the roots occupy the entire pot, the plant is transplanted with the onset of spring. Shallow pots are suitable for an aichrone, since the plant has a shallow root system. To the soil this plant is unpretentious. For aihrizona, a substrate of sand and turf ground, or a mixture of 1 part of leaf land, sand and humus, 4 parts of turf ground, is suitable. It is useful to add bits of coal or brick crumb to the substrate. The bottom of the pot should be equipped with drainage.

After transplanting, the plant should be watered only on the fifth day. The first watering should be carried out in small portions, such a careful measure is necessary not to provoke decay of the root system. It is best if the plant grows in a clay pot.

Reproduction of aichrizon.

This houseplant propagates by cuttings and seeds.

Seeds need to be sown in a bowl with leafy soil and sand (1: 0, 5). Until seedlings have appeared, sowing requires spraying and regular airing. Yes, a bowl with sowing should be covered with glass on top. After 14 days, the seeds begin to germinate.

Seedlings are carried in boxes or in a bowl, between seedlings the distance should be at least 1 centimeter. Substrate composition: sand, light turf ground, leaf earth (at the rate of 0.5: 0.5: 1). Dissected seedlings are placed closer to the light. As the sprouting grows, the seedlings are dived one by one into shallow pots (5-7 cm), into a substrate consisting of the same parts of leaf land, light turf and sand. Pots are placed in a room with a temperature of 18 degrees, but not below 16 ° C. Watering is carried out once a day.

If the plant multiplies by leaves and cuttings, then they are wilted for several hours in a dry and dark place before planting. Then they are planted in pots or another container. They can be rooted in a mixture for succulent plants with the addition of sand, in vermiculite, in moist sand. Rooting is possible in water, in which coal is added. Rooted leaves and cuttings are transplanted into shallow pots (5-7 cm). The composition of the substrate and care is the same as that of the seedlings.

Possible difficulties.

A warm winter can lead to the fact that the shoots of the plant will be significantly stripped. If this happens, then the plant needs to be rejuvenated - cut off the top of the rosette or stem and root it.

If the plant in winter is in a cool room, then water it with warm water in small portions.

If the plant is stretched and begins to lose its decorative, this indicates a lack of light.

If the leaves fall, this may indicate a waterlogging or drying of the substrate. The reason may be a prolonged exposure to plants under direct sunlight, especially at noon.

Too high temperature in the autumn-winter time leads to the fact that the leaves begin to fall off, so it is advised for a while to place the plant in a cool and bright place where the temperature will be a maximum of 8 o C.

Sometimes in the flowering period, leaves begin to fall off.

Damaged: different rot.
