The history of the feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary
In the Bible, very little is said about the life of Mary after the crucifixion of Christ. According to church legends, she continued to live in Jerusalem with her named son - John the Theologian. The woman prayed a lot, visited places connected with the memory of the Savior, and also told people about his life and the ransom sacrifice.
Archangel Gabriel himself informed her of the end of the earthly life. The Holy Virgin wanted to bid farewell to the apostles, who were at that time in different parts of the world, and the Lord performed a miracle, transferring them to Jerusalem in one night.
The earthly body of the woman was buried in the Garden of Gethsemane, but after 3 days it disappeared - the Pure One ascended to heaven, her soul was accepted by Christ.
The word "asleep" means sleep. Death is a brief dream between earthly existence and the eternal life of the soul. On the Feast of the Assumption of the Most Holy Theotokos, it is customary not to mourn, but to rejoice, attend church and ask the Mother of God for help and intercession.
Signs on the holiday
To celebrate this memorable day is made by going to the church, by prayers. Our ancestors also had a lot of acceptances, allowing at least partly to know their future. So on August 28 they put on old shoes, and thought about themselves various problems and unsolvable issues. If the shoes suddenly rubbed, then the case promised to be very difficult.
On the day of the Assumption, the nature of the coming autumn was determined. If there was abundant dew on the holiday and fog appeared, then the next 40 days it was clear, if the dew dried up, then it promised dry land. Strong fog also promised an abundant harvest of mushrooms.
But if there was thunder in the street, then in the following days it was possible to expect downpours.
