Foreign body in ear and pharynx

Foreign bodies usually find themselves in inappropriate places in the process of active games with small objects. Typically, such situations occur unintentionally, but sometimes even adults are to blame for the fact that the child, for example, in the ear or in the throat is stuck with a foreign body. Search for the guilty in this situation is not necessary first of all - first you need to act. How to act and what to do - we will talk about this in our article "Foreign body in the ear and throat".

As we have already said, the reasons for entering foreign bodies into the ear and throat of a child can be caused by different reasons. Moreover, they are different even in the framework of these two situations. So let's look at them separately.

Foreign body in the baby's ear

Most often, the foreign body appears in the external auditory canal as a result of children's games, but it happens that adults, for example, cleaning their ears, leave something small (a piece of cotton, for example) - and it's very difficult to get it. Also, an extraneous body in the ear may be an insect (especially in the summer period, when such cases become more frequent), which crawled or flew into the ear canal.

How to understand that something in the child's eye got something stranger? Firstly, the baby begins to scratch or tattoo the eye constantly, scratching it. Secondly, one ear begins to hear a little worse than the other. Thirdly, there are unpleasant sensations: the auditory canal itches and hurts, the child feels discomfort. Fourthly, their ears begin to separate.

As for the first aid, it practically does not exist. Foreign body, which is stuck in the ear, is rarely a danger to the health of the child as a whole, therefore urgent, instant assistance in these cases does not require. However, to remove a foreign body from the external auditory canal in the home "field" conditions is very difficult, almost impossible.

There are several caveats for restless and active parents: for example, in no case should you try to get a foreign body stuck in the ear canal with the help of some sharp improvised means: for example, using tweezers or a crochet hook, a spoke.

If you saw exactly what was in your ear, and you know that this object is very small, then you can make such a maneuver, which, perhaps, will help get a foreign body out of the auditory canal (however, the probability of this is extremely low). Pull the tip of the auricle slightly to the side - and then up - so you straightened the auditory passage. Ask the baby to tilt his head in the direction of the injured ear and shake it a couple of times. There is a possibility that the object will leave the auditory canal. But this is rarely possible - usually one has to resort to the help of doctors.

Almost all foreign bodies that are stuck in the ear are obtained by washing the passage - it is performed by medical personnel. If it is an insect, the doctor will dig in a little warmed vegetable oil, which will deprive the insect of the opportunity to move further. Rinsing pushes the insect out of the ear. If it was a foreign object that swelled in the ear canal (for example, a pea, some legumes or sunflower seeds), then medical personnel will inject ethyl alcohol (70%), which draws liquid from the foreign body. After that, the ear is washed again.

Foreign body in the throat of the baby

There are three kinds of situations in which something can get stuck in the throat. First, during a meal, when the baby, say, bites a piece, which he can not swallow - and this piece gets stuck in the throat. Secondly, if this item is inedible - for example, a child swallowed a small toy. Thirdly, this foreign body can be something sharp - for example, a fish bone. The third option requires a special approach to the situation.

How to understand by the kid that his body was stuck in the pharynx? There are several signs that allow you to accurately determine this. The baby feels irritated in the throat, and often coughs. Breathing becomes a little more difficult, the same thing happens with speech. The child may experience vomiting or simply strong urge to vomit, he feels pain, which worsens while swallowing.

There is an important nuance here: if you notice that the child's breathing was difficult, it could mean not only getting a foreign body into the pharynx - it can get stuck in the airways, which is much more serious! One can not hesitate in such a situation, we must assume the worst and immediately begin emergency help - to try to "knock out" the foreign body from the respiratory tract by knocking on the thoracic part of the child with movements directed inward and upward. However, this is a separate topic.

If something big is stuck in the larynx of the child, almost in 100% of cases there is vomiting, during which this foreign body is removed from the throat spontaneously.

Separate paragraph deserves a fish bone, caught in the throat of a baby. Parents need to remember that very rarely the situation turns so that you can get a bone from your throat yourself. It is always necessary in such cases to remember the imminent danger - the possibility of damage to the esophagus and larynx by the bone that you are trying to extract. It is better to seek medical help.

In the meantime, you wait for help, first limit the child in motion to the maximum, take a lantern (or other light source) and examine the baby's mouth. Perhaps with tweezers you can stretch the bone, if it is stuck at all not deep, and you can see it well. It is important that the child quietly sit with his mouth open, but if he moves, screams or tears - leave independent attempts. If the opportunity to examine the mouth and remove the bone is not - do nothing and do not touch the baby!

There is an old "grandfather" way, through which push small, invisible bones. Take bread crumb and roll into a viscous soft ball, which must be swallowed. This ball carries away a small bone. Of course, this method does not always help, but usually it does not bring any harm.
