Houseplant rosemary

The plant rosemary belongs to the family of labial flowers. The territory of its origin is the Mediterranean. Rosemary officinalis is an evergreen shrub, densely branched, with stiff leaves of gray or olive color. The shape of its leaves is narrow-lanceolate. Blossoms throughout the warm season with blue flowers, the size of these flowers is very small and they are collected in a brush.

Rosemary at home, most often, is grown in connection with the use in cooking. If you add it to the dish, it will give the dish a new delicious taste.

Sometimes it is difficult to identify a particular plant. With rosemary it's easy, enough to rub his leaf. Rosemary has a very strong and pleasant smell, which clearly indicates its belonging.

Rosemary has a pleasant appearance, and due to the fact that it can be used in cooking, rosemary has become widespread among the florists. It is grown and houses in a pot, and in the country, and on the street in the flower beds.

Growing rosemary and grooming.

In the summer, the indoor rosemary plant grows well on the balcony, but there must be a lot of light. However, in winter it is better to keep it in a cool room, but do not lower the temperature below 10C. This plant is considered universal, because it can be grown on the open ground. But if the temperature drops below - 0ะก, then the plant will die, so at this time it is better to transfer it from the street into the room.

Lighting. Rosemary in summer and winter prefer a bright light. In winter, it needs to be at least 6-8 hours in the light, so additional lighting will not hurt. Since rosemary is more like a "street" plant, at home it would be nice to include a fan to simulate the wind.

Watering. In summer, water the plant rosemary costs moderately, reducing the amount of water as it gets colder. In winter, it is worth watering only if the land is dried, since the plant does not like a lot of moisture.

Feeding. With regard to fertilizers, it also requires a small amount. It is enough to feed it once every two weeks with fertilizers of mineral and organic content, and in winter even less often - once a month or one and a half.

Transfer. The plant needs a mixture of hardwood, turf, peat land, humus and sand. Transplant rosemary in the mixture described above, every spring, while you need to provide the plant with good drainage.

Reproduction. Rosemary is a plant that is most often propagated by shoots after they have been burnt. It is necessary to clean the shoots from the leaves from below, dip into the mixture with earth and place in a moist mixture of sand and peat. If there is a mixture of peat with vermiculite or perlite, then this mixture is also quite suitable. The shoots are left in the mixture until rooting, and then planted in the ground mixture, the ingredients of which are described above. It is worth noting that rosemary can take root in water, but it does not always happen. During rooting, it is necessary to spray the stalk and avoid direct sun rays. Roots usually appear in two to three weeks. Once the rooted stem is planted in a pot, it must be pinched to form branches.

Cultivation from seeds is laborious, but with such reproduction, the qualities of the mother plant are not inherited, so the growers prefer to propagate by cuttings.

Formation of a bush. This houseplant should be cut off, because with good care its growth can be 2 meters. But do not cut off shoots in autumn, it is better to do it after flowering. Trimming of shoots also stimulates the appearance of branches.

Possible problems.

Rosemary can be damaged by whitefly, false-dew, and aphids. This usually occurs in the winter. To prevent dew, too much humid environment should be avoided. If you wash the plant with soapy water (followed by washing under the shower), it will save the aphids and whiteflies. For prevention, you can spray with a solution of insecticide soap.
