Once my table was filled with various unnecessary things, which it was a pity to throw out, but there was nowhere to clean up. I think that you also encountered such a problem. Only with the passage of time do you begin to clearly realize the uselessness of this or that thing. These are phone numbers on small paper stickers, contracts, which were further developed several times, and earlier copies with manual editing remained on my desktop, various plans for the day, notes, etc.
In order to start putting things right on the table, you need to determine exactly which things should always be at your fingertips, relative to me - a pen, notebook and calculator. It is with these things that I can quickly work during the day. To you I recommend to pick up those subjects which will correspond to specificity of your work. Over time, when the table is cleaned, you will understand how much it affects you and your psychological state. You will feel more relaxed, there will be no nervousness due to the eternal chaos, there will be at least an illusion of the orderliness of your affairs, but let's hope that not only an illusion, but we are talking about psychological aspects, so in our case, the illusion - this is our little victory.
How do you still achieve that cleansing your table was not a one-time rush, but the rule of your life. It is important to remember that you need to think through the document flow system. That is, for documents of one kind, we create a folder into which we will file all similar documents, so we will get order in the documents well on the table. I think it's not worth talking about how to distribute documents, you already can determine for yourself which folders and what documents you need to create. The main thing is to stick to the rules created by you, if during the day you do not have time to sort out, I recommend that you stay at your workplace after the end of the day and sort everything out. Believe me, 5-10 extra minutes of work will help you the next morning to start the day with a very good mood. It should be followed from day to day, not so difficult, and the result will be simply amazing.
I will bring the system of guidance and maintenance of order to me personally, having become acquainted with it, it will be easier for you to make your own rules, adapting them personally to you:
- Firstly, I collected and put everything from my desk and drawer, which is attached to it in one big pile. He carefully read all the documents and papers and sent each to his destination, which he then sutured, then threw it away.
- Secondly, I clearly defined the place on my desktop for current documents, I also put them in one pile to this place. Those documents that I do not have time to process, go to the folder "Raw Documents", which neatly stands on the shelf. With it, I start the next working day.
- At the end of each working day, I examine my desk for unnecessary things, leaving only those that are necessary for operational work. Everything else goes according to purpose.
