Blood clots during menstruation

Virtually all women are familiar with such a phenomenon as the appearance of clots with menstruation. Often with such a problem they immediately seek medical help, especially if the clots appear regularly. Most often they are present against the background of strong menstruation and talk about any violations in the work of the body. To avoid possible complications, you should go to a consultation with a gynecologist and take the prescribed examination. The causes of the appearance of clots are not so small, they can occur with various gynecological disorders, as well as with general diseases of the whole organism.

Possible causes of the appearance of clots during menstruation

As already mentioned above, there are many reasons for the appearance of clots during menstruation. One of them is adenomyosis, or endometriosis of the uterus.

This disease is characterized by a gradual growth in the muscular layer of the uterus of foci, which are similar in structure to the mucous membrane (endometrium). In most cases, adenomyosis occurs in women between the ages of forty and fifty. The disease can arise as a result of abortion, pathological birth, scraping of the uterus and other similar intrauterine interventions. The increase in endometrial foci leads to muscle hyperplasia, which is why the size of the uterus increases. The disease is usually characterized by strong menstruation, containing clots, post-premenstrual bleeding, as well as malfunctions in the menstrual cycle. Often, patients complain of painful sensations with menstruation, aching pain in the abdomen between periods of menstruation, which is a consequence of the adhesive process in the pelvic region. Most often the disease has a chronic character and is prone to progress. Therapy of adenomyosis in most cases is reduced to taking hormonal medications.

Myoma of the uterus

This pathology refers to hormone-dependent benign tumors. With it, the myomatous nodes contribute to the increase in the size of the uterus, and, consequently, the endometrium. The main signs of the disease include a dense, enlarged and tuberous uterus, various malfunctions in the menstrual cycle, abundant periods with clots of blood, painful sensations in the lower abdomen. Most often, clots during menstruation are observed with submucous myoma of the uterus, when the myomatous node grows directly into the uterine cavity. Complication of this type of fibroid is the appearance of a node that can manifest itself through such a symptom as profuse bleeding with clots. Treatment of the disease is prescribed by a doctor depending on the individual characteristics of the patient's body and can be either operational or conservative.

Diseases of the endometrium

These diseases, such as polyposis and endometrial hyperplasia, can manifest themselves through strong menstruation containing clots. Polyposis is the formation of polyps in the endometrium, and hyperplasia - too strong growth of the mucous membrane of the uterus. Because of the increased endometrium, blood clots and painful sensations appear during menstruation. Therapy here is to perform a procedure for scraping the uterus with the subsequent appointment of a drug course.

Pathologies of development of the uterus

Pathologies of the development of the uterus, such as the one-horned uterus, intrauterine partition, double uterus and others, in most cases are associated with a hereditary predisposition to this disease. However, it is not uncommon for the fetus to arise if the parent smokes or drinks during pregnancy, or if it takes harmful medicines. Blood clots that arise in this case appear as a result of the emerging difficulties with the removal of menstrual blood from the uterus cavity because of the presence of different kinds of septums, etc. As a result, the blood accumulated in the vagina begins to coagulate already in the uterus.

Violation of the blood coagulation system

It is not so rare the presence of clots during menstruation can be associated with various pathologies in the mechanism of blood coagulation. This may be due to the fact that cells that must prevent blood clotting, do not perform their functions in full and the blood folds ahead of time.
