Chesapeake Bay Retriever

There is a breed whose dogs are considered strong and bold indefatigable toilers. This breed is called "chesapeake bee retriever", which means "duck dog".

The history of breeding retrievers began in the XIX century, when the coast of the American state of Maryland ran aground British brig. The sailors were rescued by the crew of an American ship. As a token of gratitude, the British gave the captain of the ship that rescued them, George Lo, two Newfoundland puppies, who were taken from the island of Newfoundland.

Later, these two grown puppies began to interbreed with the kung-hounds, which at that time already appeared on the shore of the Chesapeake Bay. Kun-hounds gave speed to the future retrievers, besides, the color of the eyes and color speak about the presence of their blood in the blood of the retrievers.

Some experts believe that later appeared dogs were also crossed with Irish water spaniels, setters, curly-haired and straight-haired retrievers.

The final formation of the breed occurred in the second half of the XIX century. Immediately Chesapeake Bay Retrievers began to acquire a well-deserved popularity, thanks to the skill of working with waterfowl on the water.

For the first time the dog of this breed was officially registered by the Kennel Club of America in 1878, and the American Club of Crappic Retrievers appeared in 1918.

Nowadays dogs of this breed occupy the third place in America in popularity among retrievers, second only to gold retrievers and labradors.

Description chesapeake bay rocks

The breed of retrievers was bred in the states of Virginia and Maryland, located on the coast of the Chesapeake Bay .. All the parameters of the cessi, as they are called in America, are ideally suited for this work. The head of the wedge-shaped form, which has a wide skull and powerful large jaws, makes it possible to easily drop the game from the water. Small, thick and high-set ears allow it to float in cold water, often covered with ice cake. Thick, short, coarse wool covers the dog like a rug, and does not allow moisture to seep to the body.

This is probably the best dog, adapted to work on the water. With its help, hunters in America each year extract up to 1,000 ducks.

The size and power of Chesapeake Bay Retrievers should not be excessive, as they are working dogs, but sufficient to break the ice in search of prey and stay in ice water for a long time. Sometimes dogs have to overcome considerable distance by swimming against the wind or the current.

It is believed that gold retrievers are much better suited to the role of pets and companion dogs, and the chessy are not exclusively hunting dogs, they are often just domestic pets.

Probably, such an opinion arose in connection with the fact that chesapeaks are recognized individualists. To win their love and recognition, it takes a long and hard education. Dogs that are strongly attached to the owner and family members often take care of young children and patiently demolish their "harassment".

Aggressiveness, which some experts attribute to this breed, in most cases is greatly exaggerated. But do not forget that dogs of this breed have an innate security skill, so when protecting the owner and his territory, they can be aggressive.

Do not give the dog for training and training to an outsider. Educate and train her better than the master. Such training methods will have a much better result.
