Joint son and mother sleep

Sleep with the baby is typical for all representatives of the animal kingdom and for most of the world's cultures too. Because it is natural, however, like the joint sleep of the son and mother.

Arguments for"

Psychological comfort is for everyone. During the months of intrauterine development, the baby got used to the knock of his mother's heart, and, falling asleep with his mother nearby, getting his share of tactile contacts (strokes), he feels protected. This, in turn, forms a high basic level of trust in the world, which subsequently protects the child from depressions and fears (including fear of the dark). Mom is also in the "plus": intuition and maternal instinct are actively developing, and anxiety states are disappearing. Especially important is a joint dream in the event that the mother early went to work (helps to cope with the sense of guilt before the crumbs and make up for the daily deficit of communication).

Quality of sleep - and the baby, and mom. At mummy "under a wing" the child quickly calms down and plunges into a deep sleep. In addition, during periods of susceptibility (the transition from one stage of sleep to another), repeated every hour or two, the baby does not whimper, because Mom's presence gives him a signal: "Everything is quiet, you can sleep on." Mom also does not need to constantly jump up - and the need for crumbs in suckling is promptly satisfied, and the dream is not broken.

Stabilization of lactation

As you know, night snacks are largely responsible for organizing long-term breastfeeding (through the production of hormones oxytocin and prolactin). With a joint sleep, this process is much easier, and more hormones are released - so Mom reacts to groaning and sniffing favorite crumbs.

Warming. In a newborn thermoregulation is not yet established, so it is very sensitive to temperature changes during a joint sleep of the son and mother. And you really will not freeze with Mom-dad!

Dangerous. Most of all, mother is afraid to pinch the baby in a dream, but experts say that this fear is groundless. First, a person has a subconscious sense of boundaries (which keeps him from falling from the bed - and the position of the body changes in a dream up to 50 times!). Secondly, there is a so-called maternal dominant (the focus of excitation in the brain), which makes mom's sleep sensitive. The roots of the horror stories about the "sprinkling" of the child are a gloomy legacy of the Middle Ages, when, due to the low level of medicine, infant mortality grew, and the reason was seen in a joint dream of the child with the mother (therefore in many European countries in the XVI-XVIII centuries even a law forbidding it was passed).

It's unhygienic. Unless the parents go to bed in their shoes and never take a shower. In addition, it is always possible to lay a separate sheet in the crumbs. Although babies are already safely protected from microbes from antibodies and immunoglobulins from breast milk from the mother.

The child will not fall asleep independently and will grow too dependent on a joint sleep of the son with his mother. This happens only when the process is delayed (often from the mother's feeder). If we consider joint sleep as a baby's need at a certain time, it is obvious that sooner or later it will outgrow it - as well as breastfeeding.

And what about sex? In fact, sex and the child are very compatible - there are options. You can put the baby in the evening in your own bed, and at night pick it up at its first request, you can find another time or place for the love games.

Four rules for safe sleeping together

1. The child does not sleep between parents (the pope does not have a dominant - "watchman"), but between the mother and the wall.

2. Parents - in a clear mind: alcohol and other "dope" (including sedatives) are excluded! And do not overwork - it can provoke a very deep sleep.

3. The bed is wide so that everyone is comfortable. On its edge can be installed and safety collar.

4. Without overheating! It is not worthwhile to wrap the baby - my mother's body gives extra warmth.

Word to scientists

It turns out that constant tactile stimulation, inevitable in joint sleep, ensures the uninterrupted operation of the respiratory center, reducing the likelihood of sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS). The first study on this topic was conducted in 1992 by the Serz couple (using the example of their own daughter): during the sleep in the crib, the sensors detected 53 malfunctions of breathing and heart rhythm in 6 hours, and when the child slept with his mother, there were none! Some researchers generally consider SIDS as a "disease of civilization" - it occurs only in a developed society, where the child is often deprived of full contact with parents.
