Migraine in Pregnancy

In women who suffer from migraine, during pregnancy there is a decrease in the number of seizures and their intensity. And it also happens on the contrary - in women who have never suffered from migraine before pregnancy, this problem appears at a very important moment in their life. These two situations are explained by the fact that hormonal changes occur in the body or various internal diseases or complications can arise.

About the appearance of migraine it is necessary to tell the doctor who leads the pregnancy. Most likely, the doctor will offer to undergo a thorough and thorough examination to be sure in the absence of serious diseases, such as intracranial hemorrhage or thrombosis of the vessels of the brain.

Most migraine women appear during the first trimester during pregnancy, and then headaches generally go on until the baby is born, and then resume when the menstrual cycle is restored. Attacks of migraine are accompanied by severe headache, nausea, vomiting, weakness, increased irritability, visual disturbances.

To date, for the treatment of migraine, there are specific drugs. But during pregnancy, some of these drugs can be taken only as prescribed by the doctor. If there is increased blood pressure, then complex therapy is prescribed, which includes the use of drugs to reduce blood pressure.

Treatment of headache with drugs during pregnancy is undesirable, because many of the drugs have a negative effect on the formation of the fetus and the course of pregnancy. In extreme cases, you can relieve the pain with migraine with paracetamol, and if necessary, take antihistamines: diazolin, fenkarol, suprastin.

Pregnant women should not use some drugs to stop migraine attacks. For example, nurofen and aspirin increase the risk of fetal malformations and internal hemorrhage, uterine contraction causes ergotamine, and fetal development slows propranolol. Negatively affects the use of aspirin and its derivatives - citramone, ascofen, tsitrapar, especially in the first part of pregnancy. They can affect the formation of malformations of the fetus, namely the heart and lower jaw. Quite toxic agents are analgin and preparations containing it in its composition - baralgin, spazgan, spasmalgon. If they are used for a long time, they cause pathological changes in the blood.

The very first thing that comes to mind with a migraine attack is to take a pill, but first you need to think about what medicines are at the moment, neither the future mother, nor the child to anything. Therefore, you need to try to find other ways to overcome migraines during the bearing of the baby.
