Neurosis in a child: what to do to parents

Childhood neurosis is an insidious disorder: it can masquerade as whims and behavioral problems, causing the parents not to worry but to irritate. Meanwhile, if a toddler experiences insuperable fears, does not react to persuasion and punishment, at times falls into hysterics - this is an occasion to turn to a specialist. Whatever the diagnosis is, adults should adhere to three important rules.

First of all - do not engage in self-medication. The neurologist or therapist should determine the problem and correct it. He carefully examines the child, objectively assesses the presence of pathology, possible risks and selects a program for its elimination.

The basis of neurotic manifestations is often traumatic experience, unpleasant experiences or real fears. Family conflicts, a rigid system of punishments, frightening prohibitions can thoroughly "shake" the fragile nervous system of the baby. The task of parents is to try to minimize the negative external impact.

No matter how professional the doctor is, the main work for the rehabilitation of the child falls on the shoulders of the parents. Unconditional love, understanding and attention to the needs of the baby are often much more effective than tablets and procedures.
