Palma room hoveya

Hovei family from the family of palm or arekov. This genus includes two species of plants that grow mainly on the island of Lord Howe. Its name is due to the island on which it grows. Hovei refers to high-stem palms, with a smooth trunk (trunk in rings), with pinnate leaves, with an inflorescence, which is formed from the sinus of the lowest leaves. These are very beautiful palm trees, unpretentious and hardy, so they can be grown at home. Hovei can carry some shade and dry air indoors.

Kinds.

Belmora hoveya spread on coral hills and sands in the coastal area on the island of Lord Howe. This type of palm grows up to 6-10 meters in height, has a trunk in the rings, at the base is expanded. Leaves long to 2-4 meters, pinnate, arcuate; leaves are straight, wide to 2-2.5 cm long, 40-60 cm long, are densely distributed on both sides of the rachis, green on both sides, and have a pronounced middle vein. Petiolus curved, very short, strong, in length it is about 25-35 centimeters. The inflorescence is simple, not branched, directed downwards, from 0.6 cm to 1.3 m in length.

Forster's going. In this species the trunk is straight, at the base not widened, in length it is 9-12 m. Leaves in length can be 2-2,5 m, not arcuate. The lower leaves are horizontally oriented. On both sides of the rachis, horizontally from each other at 2 cm distance, green leaves are located, from below in small points. Inflorescence hanging, branched, grows up to 1 meter in length. The petiolus in length is 1-1.5 meters long, arcuate not curved.

Care of the plant.

Lighting. Palma room hoveya well tolerates the direct rays of the sun, grows well in bright rooms near the southern windows. Can tolerate a slight shading. I like hawing at the windows with the north-eastern and north-western directions.

Shading can be achieved by curtaining the window with a curtain. If the plant has been standing for a long time in the penumbra, or it was recently bought, then it is not necessary to put it in the sun right away, otherwise the plant will get burned, in this case it should be gradually accustomed to the sun.

Temperature regime. In spring, as well as in summer, the plant should be grown at a temperature close to 20-24 degrees. In winter, it is better to place a palm tree in a room with an 18-20 degree temperature, but can accept a low 12-16 degree temperature. The easiest is the low temperature of adult plants.

Location. The place where the hovei is grown should be without drafts, but with fresh air.

Watering. I want to water in the summer with abundant, restful, essentially soft water, because this kind of palm tree can not tolerate excess lime. Watering is carried out immediately, as the surface land dries. Beginning in the autumn, watering should be reduced, but the earth should not dry out.

Spraying. Although hovei can tolerate dry air, however, they will not refuse regular sprinkling in summer with slightly warm soft water, preferably dormant. In winter, you do not need to spray. If this room palm is not very large, then from time to time it can be put under the shower and washed from the dust, but if the plant has grown too large, then the leaves should be wiped with a damp sponge.

Top dressing. In fertilizer hoveya needs all year round. The fertilization of the palm is carried out with the usual mineral fertilizer. In the summer, twice a month, and so it is enough once a month.

Transplantation and multiplication of hovei.

Transplanted young hovey annually, adults are transplanted at three years once. Large kadon specimens are not necessarily transplanted, but it is necessary to change the top layer of the soil every year. When transplanting a plant, you need to remove not only the top layer, but also the drainage layer, while making sure that the root system is not damaged.

For the dive takes the following composition, consisting of turf, humus, sand and leaf land (4: 2: 1: 1). The older the plant, the larger the humus. The plant needs to make good drainage. Hydroponics is suitable for growing hovei. In the pot you can plant several young plants.

Hoveya is a palm tree that multiplies mainly by seeds. Some seeds last 2 months for germination, and some seeds only after 12 months.

12-13 summer, well-developed specimens can have 12 or more leaves. 15-18 year olds can have up to twenty leaves.
