Pets are bad for health

Everybody knows about the benefits that pets bring to us. This is a sense of joy, and getting rid of loneliness, and even living help in the treatment of heart and nervous system diseases. This is all so - with this no one argues. But there is also the downside of this big and brilliant medal. There are many diseases that people can not simply, but often become infected from their pets. So, pets - they harm the health of the owners, though not intentionally, but they can inflict damage. And the damage is quite substantial.

All animals - both stray and domestic - can become a source of human diseases. People can get infected with bites, through damage to the skin and even just caressing their animals and playing with them. Here are some of the most notable diseases carried by pets.

Echinococcosis

This is an acute infectious parasitic disease transmitted by dogs. They can become infected as a result of eating raw meat from infected animals. Echinococcosis is caused by a parasite in size from 3 to 9 mm. You can catch this disease in cases not related to personal hygiene. This is not the case when you simply save hands with soap. The disease is transmitted through the saliva of the dog, falling immediately into the blood. Most often it affects the liver, less often the lungs and other organs of the human body. Pathogens - echinococci - form a cyst, which can reach the size of a soccer ball. When a rupture can form new cysts. People suffering from echinococcosis often have symptoms such as coughing, rashes, severe weight loss and pain in the right side or chest. The disease is most effectively treated by surgical removal of the cyst from the appropriate organ. Sometimes this disease is successfully treated only with the help of medications. The main thing is to ask for medical help on time.

Toxoplasmosis

Another disease transmitted by animals, mostly cats. The cause of the disease is a bacterium that is excreted in urine, feces, saliva and cat milk. You can get infected by direct contact with cats, playing with them or allowing them to lick themselves. Those, in turn, are infected by consuming meat from infected animals.

When introducing bacteria into the human body, allergic reactions quickly begin to develop. Symptoms of the disease are similar to a simple viral cold. It is an inflammation of the respiratory tract and tonsils, fever, an increase in the lymph nodes in the neck. Often, the disease occurs at all without any symptoms. Treatment is conducted on the spectrum of antibiotics.
Toxoplasmosis is especially dangerous for pregnant women, as the disease can affect the fetus, cause it to deform, motor disorders, mental retardation of the child. It can also lead to miscarriage or the birth of a dead child. Women who had this disease before pregnancy do not transmit the infection to the fetus. To prevent this disease, experts advise not to touch street cats. If you have a domestic cat - take it regularly to the veterinarian for an examination.

Rabies

This is a deadly infectious disease transmitted by dogs, wolves, foxes, cats and other warm-blooded animals. A person becomes infected with this disease as a result of scratching, biting, licking an infected animal. Very often your pet can, as a carrier of the disease, have no visible signs of infection. In humans, the symptoms of this disease are expressed in increased irritability, sleep disturbance, pain at the bite site, increased salivation, sweating, shortness of breath. Patients die from rabies on the third or fifth day after infection. The only way to prevent death is immunization, which must be done in the first days after infection.

Chasotka

The disease is most often transmitted from cats. It appears in the occurrence of a red rash, which can be on any part of the body. Treatment is carried out according to the scheme to combat fungal skin lesions. There are quite effective antibiotics and ointments. If your pet begins to itch feverishly, and the fleas are not visible on it - urgently carry it to the veterinarian. The disease is diagnosed quickly and is treated easily, but it is extremely unpleasant and very contagious. So do not let the disease spill over to all members of your family.

Feline (a disease of cat scratch)

This is an acute infectious disease, which is mainly transmitted from cats. You can get infected by just playing with a cat and getting even a slight scratch. Gradually, a bubble forms on its place, which subsequently begins to grow and burst. The disease spreads further, infecting the blood and internal organs. Symptoms are high fever, enlarged lymph nodes in the armpits and neck. Other signs of illness: nausea, fatigue, fever and rarely seizures. The disease is treated according to the spectrum of antibiotics.

Ku fever

The disease is transmitted most often from farm animals. Infection is transmitted to people as a result of eating animal products infected with parasites, or by direct contact with infected animals. Symptoms of the disease - fatigue, fever, chills, severe headache, muscle pain, insomnia. Reddening of the face, neck and throat. In rare cases, the rash appears on the abdomen, back and chest. Sometimes patients may develop pneumonia. Treatment of this disease is carried out with the help of antibiotics.

Salmonellosis

This common disease is transmitted from animals to humans. The name of the disease comes from its cause - the bacteria of Salmonella. You can get infected if you get into the body contaminated food, water, as well as in contact with the infected animal. The most common symptoms of the disease are headache, fever, diarrhea, nausea, chills, dehydration. In rare cases, salmonella can cause inflammation of the eyes, joint pain, which subsequently lead to chronic arthritis. Treatment of this disease is made by antibiotics. It is very dangerous for young children, there are cases of death.
Some domestic birds, such as parrots and pigeons, can also be carriers of diseases. People can get pneumonia with initial symptoms similar to the flu. The severe form of the disease includes pneumonia, indigestion and nervous system disorders.
If you have an animal in your house - it is very important to periodically show it to a veterinarian for a preventive examination. Even if you are not sick and your pet feels fine - remember: the animal can be a carrier of the disease. Much will depend on your close observation of your pet - harm to health otherwise may be irreparable.
