Rules of care for jewelry

Today we will talk about the rules of care for jewelry. Since ancient times and to this day there is a beautiful tradition of decorating yourself with jewelry. Confirmation of this tradition is found by archeologists at excavations in different parts of the globe - at all times the fashion for decoration does not run low. This is indicated by embroidered suits, dresses, and shoes. Usually we adhere to the culture and traditions existing in the country in which we live.

In Soviet times, it was considered a good thing to wear one golden ring on my arm, basically it was always an engagement ring. Eastern women are accepted to adorn themselves at once with all the available gold ornaments.

And even if we only have a pair of earrings or a gold chain with a suspension, and everything else is costume jewelery - we want these decorations to brightly shine, playing with all the colors of the rainbow, and always pleased the eye.

I hope there is not such a woman in the world who would be indifferent to jewelry? By giving preference to noble metals - gold, silver, platinum - we, by our love for these noble alloys, hold the palm tree for love for them and for greater preference.

Buying jewelry, it is supposed to be worn, and not stored in a casket for many decades. That's why you need to know a few simple rules and techniques that allow you to keep the jewel in its original form, perhaps for your great-grandchildren.

So, first, look in the box and select all the dull and dirty decorations.

Helpful Tips

  1. To protect jewelery from dirt and damage, take care of them, remove ornaments during homework.
  2. When using cosmetic preparations such as: soap, perfume, bleaching creams, acetone - be aware that the listed products have a very detrimental effect on the surface of the jewelry.
  3. Think about where you will store your jewelry. After all, jewelry "do not like" direct sunlight and store them best in a closed box or casket and, preferably, away from heating appliances.
  4. Ultraviolet rays destructively affect the expressiveness of the coloration of many stones: amethyst, pearl, turquoise, ruby, pomegranate and colored topaz, except for golden.
  5. Know also that the bathroom, for storing jewelry, is not suitable, because it has high humidity.
  6. All jewelry, with inserted stones, "afraid" of sudden temperature changes.
  7. It is important to remember that you need to remove jewelry: when doing household and physical work, sports activities, during cosmetic procedures, in order to protect from bumping and falling, and frequent contact with other objects, basting the stone.

Jewelery made of silver and silver

A special approach requires silver, which, as you know, very quickly darkens. This unpleasant plaque is formed with high humidity, and it can be removed in several ways.

To restore brilliance, silver and silvered ornaments can be washed in a soap solution, and then dipping in a solution with ammonia (1 tablespoon per 1 liter of water). Restoration shine will serve as a potato broth, which we merge after cooking, lowering the silver jewelry for 10 minutes.

Silver and Melchior cutlery, like silver jewelry, can be cleaned in a boiling solution consisting of 1 tablespoon of salt, from the shell of two chicken eggs per 1 liter of water - lower for 15 seconds chains, rings and bracelets (without stones). After boiling, rinse thoroughly and wipe with a cloth cloth.

Silver jewelry with a dark coating can be cleaned with drinking soda or tooth powder, rinsing in clean water, and polishing with cloth.

Jewelery from gold

Pay attention to a very important observation about the careful handling of cosmetics, which includes mercury and its salts. Mercury not only changes the color of gold, falling on it, but also destroys it, "eating" the surface of the decoration.

Gilded surface decoration is better not to brush, as a thin gold layer can simply be erased.

Freshen and make brighter tarnished gold and gold-plated ornaments by using onion juice, wiping it on the surface of jewelry, leaving for a half to two hours. Then rinse with water and wipe dry with a cloth.

In a diluted dishwashing detergent, lower all your gold ornaments, including precious stones, and leave for the whole day from time to time to shake until the contaminants come off. Near the buckles and under the stones you can walk carefully with a soft toothbrush. Then wash each "thing" with distilled or boiled water, drying with a towel.

It happens that on the gold decoration, there is a spot of iodine. Remove this stain possibly by lowering the jewelry for 15-20 minutes in a solution of hyposulfite, used in photography.

Rules for the care of jewelry with natural gemstones

Before you begin to eliminate pollution, you need to find out what hardness your stone has. Carefully look at how the stones are fixed on the decoration. If they are glued, then from wet cleaning should be discarded or washed very carefully. Let's consider this issue in more detail.

Brilliant, sapphire, emerald, ruby, quartz, topaz - stones, having a coefficient of hardness in the "five-point" system. What does this mean? Gold and platinum jewelery with these precious stones can be cleaned even in a detergent solution with a soft brush. Then rinse the jewelry in distilled water.

There is another way of purification, by immersion, for a short time, in a heated solution consisting of 120 grams. drinking soda, 50 gr. bleach, 30 gr. table salt for half a liter of water. After cleaning, the jewelry must be rinsed with cold water, and then dried.

Turquoise, opal, Moonstone, apatite, sunflower, malachite are stones that show themselves by a coefficient of hardness a step below the "five", so these ornaments should be washed in soapy water.

Rutin, sapphire, alexandrite can be washed in warm soapy water with the addition of ammonia (1 teaspoon per half a cup of water), then rinse with clean water and dry with a napkin.

Pearl - contains two percent of water, so this stone becomes cloudy and loses its shine. However, you can clean it with a mild soapy solution. You can wipe with potato starch, which removes excess moisture and pollution. A greasy plaque with pearls can be removed by wrapping it in a thin linen napkin, lowering it into saline solution. Then dry it.

Keep the pearls apart from other ornaments by packing it in a soft flannel napkin. True, pearls will be nicer to "revive" from the heat of the human body, and in a napkin it will "vegetate", so more often wear it. And then he will shine with all the colors of the rainbow. For you!

To remove dust in the ring or, for example, earrings from under the stone, you need to take a cotton swab dipped in cologne, glycerine or a mixture of magnesia with ammonia and gently walk along the frame from above and below, and then flannel or suede polish the decoration.

In no case can sharp objects be scraped off the rims of the stone contamination, as the surface of the rim is damaged. For rings and rings to be clean and radiant, remove them when washing your hands.

Cleaning of stone products should be done very carefully, accurately and in a timely manner. Any product, other than decoration with pearls, after cleaning must be wiped clean with ethyl alcohol or wiped dry, so that it does not dim. Pearls are very fond of moisture, so it can not be over-dried, to avoid cracks that may appear over time.

It is recommended to clean jewelry at least once a month, and for prevention it is necessary to refer every six months to a jewelry workshop.

Jewelry - this is a unique and multifaceted strokes to your image. Love your jewelry and their beauty will stay with you for many, many years! Remember that they will be able to please you and others only if you follow the rules of jewelry care!
