The child was poisoned by a poisonous plant

Summer is, perhaps, one of the most dangerous season for mothers of young children. Because it hides in itself many, at first glance, insignificant threats to the health of the baby. This is not only a traumatism, consisting of tattered knees or fractures. One of not just unpleasant, but even dangerous situations is when a child is poisoned by a poisonous plant. It seemed that he was playing innocently in the grass - and then he ran out in tears. What happened and how can you help him?

First, immediately note that when a child is poisoned by poisonous plants - it does not necessarily mean that he ate a leaf he liked - and eventually was poisoned by a plant that turned out to be extremely toxic. He could just be next to a plant that emits a poisonous juice, which is easy enough to touch, in order to get a poisonous substance.

First, let's consider the option, when the child was not poisoned internally, but got a skin lesion due to contact with a poisonous plant. There are a few fairly accurate visual symptoms and expressions that lead to the conclusion that the defeat of a poisonous plant still happened, and the crying of the child is not in vain. In particular, the damaged area quickly turns red, skin swelling occurs, the skin itches and bites, and unpleasant vesicles appear.

How can we help, what is the first aid for skin damage with a poisonous plant? To begin with, pull the child out of the thickets, in which the cause of the skin lesion is hidden. If the juice of a poisonous plant remains on the child's clothing (or any other stains from the grass, the origin of which you do not know, but you can definitely say that before the baby climbed into the thickets, they were not), then remove all these wardrobe items. If all this happened not more than an hour ago - then there is a reason to thoroughly rinse the affected area (affected areas) or running water, or warm water using soap, if possible. After this, it is necessary to dry the place, on which the poisonous juice has got. You can gently wipe this place with a clean towel or napkin, or just gently wipe it, trying not to hurt the child. It's great if you have a special anti-allergic agent in your marching or home medicine cabinet, which you need to anoint the affected area of the skin. If it does not exist, do not be lazy to run to the pharmacy and buy. If the lesion has led to severe reactions of the body, large bubbles appeared, and the affected area was swollen, then it is necessary to give the child not a local, but a common remedy against the occurrence of allergic reactions.

Now let's move on to a more dangerous situation - in which the child was poisoned by a plant that fell directly into it. Perhaps it happened because you did not follow the crumbs, and he saw a pretty berry, decided that it can be eaten. Or you decided to take care of herbs, the purpose of which you were not aware of. In any case, such a situation poses a huge danger, not just for health - for a child's life!

Counting on help symptomatology in case of poisoning by poisonous plants is not worth it, because the symptoms are far from always the same. Moreover, they can be absolutely unpredictably different, because they directly depend on which organ, which system of the child's organism is most affected by poisoning with one or another toxin.

Even if you saw with your own eyes what the child swallowed - you hardly know how this poisonous plant acts on the body. Therefore, we saw that there was something suspicious in the mouth of the baby - immediately begin to provide first aid, do not wait for the appearance of the body's reactions. If you have not seen this, but noticed any changes in the child's condition - for example, he has complaints about his health, or some other unusual reactions - immediately assume the worst, and take the child to the clinic (or call the doctors at home ).

After you reached the "first aid", proceed to the first aid. First, inspect the mouth of the crumbs - perhaps, there are still remnants of a poisonous plant in it - then you need to try to carefully get everything. In the event that the child is not unconscious, and the poisoning has occurred less than half an hour ago - then try to induce vomiting so that the swallowed parts of the plant come out. To do this, try to insert two fingers more deeply into the mouth of the child, then slightly move them - this usually causes vomiting and vomiting immediately.

After the child vomits all that can, it is necessary to give him the right amount of activated carbon. The formula for calculating the required dose in cases of severe poisoning is the same: per kilogram of the child's weight, one gram of activated carbon should be taken.

In the event that the child hysterically screams, breaks out and you can not calm him, to make the necessary manipulations to induce vomiting - then still give him activated charcoal, first having drunk either milk or tea.

If you saw what your child ate, if you can tear and keep these berries or leaves before the arrival of medical personnel - do it, and always show the doctors the cause of poisoning. This will help them to quickly determine what measures should be taken, and from which side should the danger be expected (or, perhaps, it simply does not exist, and the plant is quite innocuous).

Remember that in all cases it is better to anticipate and prevent the advancing disaster than to disentangle its terrible and dangerous consequences. That is why we suggest that you remember a few preventive measures, by observing which you can reduce the risk of dangerous situations to zero.

1. Children should not collect any plants themselves, without adult supervision.

2. Place a taboo on unfamiliar plants, treat them with your child as potentially dangerous.

3. Do not put in food those plants that you see for the first time in your life.

4. Young children should know that plants are not edible, and you can only take what you give to your parents (the same berries, for example).

5. You probably know that many of the indoor plants are also poisonous. If you know nothing about your green "pets", try to learn and clean dangerous plants. This applies to families with children under 5 years of age.

6. Do not think that if a medicine is created on the basis of a plant, then it is absolutely safe. An overdose with such a drug can also cause poisoning!
