Useful properties of mustard

The first mention of mustard can be found in the Bible, where it says that from its tiny seed grows a tree. Since then, people have learned about the useful properties of mustard. It is difficult to name a sheet mustard - the plant rarely reaches one meter. Rather, it's grass. Blooms with yellow flowers, similar to other flowers of the cabbage (cruciferous) genus, to which it belongs by the definition of botanists. After flowering, it forms brown seeds. Mustard flowers are fine honey. Honey, obtained by bees on mustard plantations, is very much appreciated for its medicinal properties.

The plant is cultivated both for green fodder (before flowering), and for obtaining seeds, from which the oil is squeezed. The composition of the oil includes: alligordic (up to forty percent), protalilhorchichnoe (up to fifty percent). As well as traces of carbon disulfide and dimethyl sulphide. Seeds contain from twenty to forty eight percent of high-quality oil containing oleic, linoleic, almethine and other acids. After pressing the oil, the resulting cake goes to the preparation of all the famous mustard plasters. Powder from ground seeds is used as a flavor to fish and meat dishes. Young leaves of mustard are used fresh in salads: they are fragrant, serve as a good source of vitamin C. There are several kinds of mustard: white, Sareptian or Russian and black mustard.

Since the time of the prophet Abraham, healers have been used to enhance urination. It was recommended to be used inside for poisonings, fevers, pleurisy and epilepsy, used mustard for both wound healing, and for various skin diseases. However, even in ancient times, people knew that mustard has a burning taste and should be used with caution.

In ancient Russia, also used mustard, as evidenced by archeologists found dishes of the 10th century, on which remains of mustard have been preserved. Moreover, they used not only grain, but also leaves of wild mustard, which is considered to be a weed. They added it to Russian cabbage soup instead of cabbage. Mustards are prescribed not only for bronchial diseases, but also for insomnia, angina and hypertension. For reflex action on blood circulation in hypertensive crises, the threat of stroke, mustard plasters are placed on the collar zone, spine, nape, chest, calf muscles.

Mustard in folk medicine. Recipes for treatment

Traditional medicine also makes good use of the useful properties of this plant. For example: in the absence of appetite 20-30 pieces of fresh seeds are swallowed without chewing every day for twenty days. When taking a small handful of seeds three times a day, the manifestations of beginning pulmonary tuberculosis are significantly reduced.

There are mustard properties that make it useful for pneumonia, bronchitis, runny nose. To do this, take foot baths with mustard: pour a mustard powder 150 g into the bucket. , table salt 200 gr. and pour hot water to half. When the water temperature reaches 39 degrees Celsius, the legs are lowered into the solution until the middle of the roe and covered with a dense blanket. As the cooling continues, hot water is continued to be added for half an hour. After that, rinse your feet with warm water to wash off the mustard and salt, wipe dry, put on woolen socks and go to bed. It is impossible to apply such procedures to the cores and with venous expansion of veins. Another way - a compress consisting of powdered mustard, vegetable oil, honey and vodka - just one tablespoon. Stir and put in a water bath. The resulting composition is applied to a cloth folded into four layers and applied to the chest. Top a layer of compress paper and wrap the patient again with a warm blanket. If you make such a compress for the night three or four times - the cold will recede.

With increasing blood pressure, mustards or compresses from mustard powder are placed on the heart, back of the neck, and calf muscles.

There is an effective way to get rid of debilitating hiccups: it is enough to mix the mustard powder with vinegar and put this mixture on one third of the tongue. In two or three minutes, an unpleasant symptom will pass without a trace. After that, rinse the mouth thoroughly with warm water.

To relieve the headache, make hot mustard baths (38 degrees Celsius) for the hands. Hold 8-10 minutes.

If neurologic pains in the back are excruciated, it is better to take a common hot bath; from 400 gr. mustard powder, to which water is poured, bringing its temperature to 37 degrees. Apply this bath for no more than five minutes, then rinse under a warm shower.

For gouty pains, a mixture of mustard (100 grams), table salt (100 grams), kerosene (100 grams) is rubbed into the diseased joints.

Rheumatism is treated with ointment of the following composition: mustard powder 50 g. one protein of raw chicken egg, camphor (50 g.) alcohol (10 ml). Ointment is not rubbed, but is applied lightly to the sore spots. Hold for about 30 minutes.

A method of treating colds is widely known and easy to use when dry powder of mustard is poured into woolen socks and placed in them in bed.

With the help of mustard oil, you can get rid of even insomnia. Apply a little oil on your feet and massage a little. Then pat dry with a paper towel. You have a good sleep!

Some use mustard powder, like shampoo. Although it does not foam, but it perfectly cleanses the head, absorbing fat. There are also hair masks. Mustard masks are useful for hair growth, since they have a stimulating effect on hair follicles. Such masks are good for general strengthening of hair. Use mustard and when washing dishes.

Most women worry about the condition of the skin of their face.
