What are the reflexes of a newborn baby?

Everyone has reflexes, many of them we acquire in the course of life, others appear from the very childhood. When a baby is born, it has a set of reflexes, but all of them gradually fade, and somewhere at five months in a healthy and normally developing child these innate reflexes should no longer appear. Why is this fading going on? Everything is simple: since birth, the brain is immature, and just in the designated five months, it finally "ripens", and the reflexes disappear. But the health of a child before this turning-point in many respects depends on the presence of reflexes, so parents should know what kind of reflexes the newborn child has and how to detect them independently. This will be discussed in our article.

These pediatric reflexes number ten, and it is doctors who give parents information on how to check what kind of reflex a newborn child has, and which, perhaps, he does not observe. If you can not consult a doctor for some reason, but want to determine whether the baby has congenital reflexes, read the article - and you will find out everything you need. And on the basis of checking your child according to the subject of the article, you can understand: whether you need to sound an alarm, or your baby develops normally.

Reflex the first: grasping (it is also called the reflex of Robinson, on behalf of the one who discovered it and described it).

To detect a baby with this reflex is very simple. One of the parents should simply bring their finger to the open palm of the baby, or gently put it into the palm of the crumbs - and he immediately tightens your finger and will not let it out. The strength of his grasp will be so great that you can even raise a newborn baby over the table or the surface of the crib. However, it is not worthwhile experimenting with the latter: it is necessary to check the child's reflexes very carefully, so as not to harm. After all, no one knows how to behave baby in the next second: perhaps he will sharply release your finger and fall on the table or bed, which is very, very undesirable!

The newborn also has a reflex of embraces , which is also called Moro's reflex. Perhaps the parents of a newborn child will find this reflex to be cruel, but this is only an appearance: in fact, the baby will normally undergo a check, naturally, if you do it yourself without too much emotionality. Choose the source for making noise: you can hit the little table on which your baby lies, just publish a sharp unexpected sound (in an adequate range, so as not to scare the newborn) or gently pattle the crumb over the thighs or buttocks. First of all, the baby should sort of lean back a little, unfold the shoulders and spread the handles in different directions. Following these movements, the crumb will bring down the handles on the chest - that is, as if embracing yourself (hence the name of the reflex went).

Reflex the third is crawling (or Bauer's reflex). Put your baby on a flat surface on your tummy, and his feet seem to support your palms. A crumb should be repelled from your hands, as from a support, perhaps it will even move forward a little, creep.

Reflex the fourth - automatic walking and support . In order to check whether the child has this reflex, take it under the armpits and lift vertically, in parallel slightly resting its legs in a flat solid surface (it can be a swaddling table or just a floor). The kid will begin to strain his legs, as if resting on the floor in an attempt to stand alone. Now lightly tilt the newborn forward and watch the legs: he will make movements that will immediately remind you of walking.

Reflex the fifth - palm-oral (or reflex Babkin). If you press a little on the open palm of a newborn baby, he immediately opens his mouth and slightly bends his head.

Reflex 6 - proboscis . Concentrate and make the easiest, however, at least a little palpable finger-pounding on the sponge sponges. If he has a proboscis reflex, then he immediately pulls out the sponges with a tube (or proboscis, from which the name of the reflex itself originates).

The reflex of the seventh is a searching one, or a search reflex (it is a Kussmaul reflex). For sure, every mother who nursed noticed this baby's manifestation when she reflected: how does the child find her breast in a dream, if you do not put it into her mouth, but simply touch the baby's parasite space with it. After all, newborns that have Kussmaul's reflex always react when something touches in the area of their mouth - the corners of the lips drop down a little, and the child turns his head in the direction from which the touches come.

Reflex the eighth, protective . The child is still quite small and holds the cervix very badly, but if you put it on your tummy - he will immediately turn his head in different directions.

The ninth is Galant's reflex . Undress the baby and put it on the table, along the spine axis gently swipe the line with your finger, while not touching the spine itself, but moving parallel to its axis, as close to it as possible. The newborn child will immediately bend back, forming a kind of arc, which will be opened exactly in the direction with which you just ran a line with your finger. The leg with the same, "irritable" side, most likely, will bend in two joints: the pelvic and the knee.

The tenth is Reflex . To check the presence of this reflex, slide your fingers along the spine, moving from the coccyx to the cervical region, while lightly pressing on the spinous processes of the vertebrae. The kid should scream, raise his head slightly, bend the body into a straight or curved line and bend parallel and lower and upper limbs.

Every parent can check the reflexes of a newborn, but sometimes you need to have certain skills for this. It can happen that the child is quite healthy and he has all the reflexes, just adults could not check it correctly. If you have doubts, instruct the case to the pediatrician.
