Adenium - a beautiful rose of the desert

Domestic flower growers are more and more inclined towards exotic plants. Firstly, such plants perfectly decorate the interior, even the most unpretentious and boring immediately sparkle with new colors and become more comfortable. Secondly, exotic plants are very popular because of their novelty, it is novelty that attracts many growers, because the desire for knowledge of the new helps a person to develop.

Among the broadest range of choice are succulents, succulents are very popular, they need to be carefully tended, regularly monitor their watering - these plants have special tissues for accumulating moisture. In addition to the most popular succulent - cactus - there are many other species, but the most beautiful among them is the adenium.

This plant appeared on the windowsills of our citizens quite recently, but has already managed to gain wide popularity due to the external beauty and unpretentiousness in the care inherent in all plants of the succulent family. Adeniums grow slowly and outwardly there are two kinds - bushy or tree-like, the distinctive feature of adenium, characteristic only for him, thanks to which he has nothing to be confused with, is a massive lower part (the stem of the trunk) that looks very much like bonsai trees.

The initial habitat of this flower is East Asia (Yemen, Saudi Arabia), Central and South Africa, mainly in arid and stony semi-arid regions. However, due to the popularization of the adenium "settled" and in countries with a tropical climate, these are Vietnam, India, Thailand, the Philippines. In these countries, adeniums are often planted in open ground and huge forged pots like park crops.

Adeniums in the wild grow to 3.5 meters, but as a room culture will be much more modest - only 50 - 60 cm, but even such a miniature height is compensated by the splendor of branches and side shoots, when flowers reach the age of 1.5 - 3 years old , the color of which varies from white to dark crimson, often the color is not monophonic - on the colors of one color there are divorces of another, for example, on a snow-white flower there is a dark red rim along the edges of the petals. As a rule, the most common color of flowers is red with a lighter (almost white) throat. It is for the beauty of these flowers that Adenium received its second name, "Rose of the Desert".

Of course, on a rose this plant does not seem to be anything at all, it is rather a poetic name, one of the most beautiful flowering plants of the desert. Adeniums blossom, as a rule, in the summer (in the period from May to October) and all the flowers are rather large 7-12 cm. The inflorescence is usually collected "in a heap" and, with proper care, does not wilt for 7-10 weeks. Adenium can be seeded from seeds and cuttings, but it is worth remembering that the juice of the plant is toxic, and after transplantation or reproduction it is necessary to wash hands. The leaves of the houseplant have a different shape, depending on the species. But most often the leaves are oblong, round or sharp at the end, green in color. But sometimes there are plants with a mottled (bluish, greyish-green) color and a narrow leaf shape.

If you purchased adenium, then it is worth remembering a few simple rules of caring for it, and then the plant will long please you with its beautiful look:
  1. Watering the plant is necessary as the soil dries.
  2. Sprinkle in the summer every day, and in the winter - once a week.
  3. To make top dressing of a plant, according to the instructions of flower fertilizer.
  4. It is not necessary to wash the leaves of a plant.
  5. During flowering, sprinkle so that the water does not fall on the flowers, otherwise they will quickly fade.

Adenium is not a capricious plant, as it is customary to think of all exotic plants, but in terms of the size, speed of growth and early flowering of incredibly beautiful flowers, they instantly become the ideal plants for decorating the city window sill.
