Baby eye drops

A child under one year is constantly prone to various eye diseases. Even during childbirth the baby can catch an infection from his mother. Therefore, in order to prevent the risk of infection, doctors in the maternity hospital drip antibacterial drugs in the eyes of children. Many children in general are born with narrow or impassable tear ducts. Such a category of newborns is the most vulnerable, since the structure of their eyes leads to frequent stagnation of the tear and inflammatory process. There is simply no way to do without special drops.

Babies after 6 months, like no other, are exposed to eye diseases due to the constant entry into them of infection from the handles. How can diagnose eye diseases in a child in time and how to choose the right medical drops? The fact that any treatment should appoint a doctor is not in doubt, but on what first signs parents identify eye disease:

The most common children's eye drops

If the eye disease in a baby is not very serious and easily removable (small mote, slight irritation or a cold), then it will be enough to use eye drops such as tetracycline or albucid. If the pain in the eyes - the result of a serious infectious lesion, then the most preferable drops will be vizin, tobrex or tropicomide.

The most frequently prescribed eye drops for children are atropine. It should be used with extreme caution, since this drug can quickly relax the longitudinal eye muscles. This contributes to the treatment of strabismus or eliminates the so-called "lazy eye" syndrome.

There are special antibacterial eye drops not recommended for use by persons under 18 years of age. The vast majority of such drugs have simply not been tested on children from this age group. If necessary, you can always choose an analog that is applicable for children of any age. So, for example, the drops of tsipromed, which are often prescribed to young children, are generally not recommended for use until 15 years. It is better to replace them with torbeks, permissible for use from infancy.

What diseases prevent eye drops?

With the help of eye drops can prevent a number of diseases, "provoked" by a bacterial or viral infection. The most common disease affecting the eyes of babies is dacryocystitis. It is especially common in infants with problematic nasolacrimal canals (the most expressive cause of the disease is the gelatinous "stopper"), which cause a violation of the outflow of tears.

Eye drops for children

Of course, these days the assortment of drops for children is wide, they are produced by foreign and domestic producers. However, such drops should always be safe and extremely delicate. Their composition, which can not be said about the prices, is not so different. Most often, 10, 20 and 30 percent solutions of sulfacyl sodium stabilized with sodium thiosulfate and purified hydrochloric acid are used as drops, as well as 3 = percentage solutions of collargol.

How to properly bury the eyes of a child

Where the drop expects a "meeting" with the child's eye, the tip of the pipette should always prevent the eyelashes from touching. Use only disposable pipettes better. Step-by-step instruction for instilling children's eyes is as follows:

  1. Wash your hands clean and make sure that your baby's eyes are also clean. If not, then use a cotton swab to remove the contaminants in the direction of the nose.
  2. Shake the vial with drops. At the slightest doubt about the application, read the instructions.
  3. Place the baby in a comfortable position. It's best to put your back on your back. If the child is very small, then it is better to swaddle him - so his hands and feet will be in a calm position.
  4. Carefully, but as quickly as possible, delay the child's lower eyelid. Then tilt the medicine bottle and squeeze one drop onto the lower eyelid. Do not touch the baby's eyes with parts of the vial.
  5. You can let go of the lower eyelid - let the child blink. So the medicine will be evenly distributed inside the eye.
  6. Repeat if necessary procedure, if you need to drip a few drops. Wipe the remainder of the drops with a clean cloth.
  7. If you need to drip drops of several types at once, you should wait at least five minutes before the next procedure.
