Hand hygiene in children

Surely everyone at least once heard the following statement that all the diseases we have from dirty hands. This statement is slightly exaggerated, although there is some truth: if the hands are periodically disinfected with a wet napkin or washed, many diseases can be avoided. If a child grows up in a family, then he should be taught the rules of personal hand hygiene from a young age, especially to explain to the child that before washing, you should wash your hands thoroughly.

Hand hygiene skills

First you need to find out what kind of hygiene is in our schools. It's where the child spends a lot of time, sometimes even more than a family at home. Considering the opportunities that are available in educational institutions, the picture will be very interesting. Most of the schools are equipped with the necessary conditions to ensure that students keep their hands clean. For example, near-table or directly at the entrance there is a row of washbasins, as well as an electric towel, so every student before eating can wash his hands. But there is another part of the schools that is not equipped with the necessary technical conditions and the children of the school cafeteria at the table sit with dirty hands, since only a few classes are located 1-2 washbasins. In such schools about soap, and even more so, electric towels are out of the question.

In the kindergarten, the child is taught to wash his hands before sitting down at the table, and at school this habit with such an approach (lack of conditions) will be lost irrevocably. In such cases, state institutions and bodies that control the work of educational institutions should take care of children in advance, and not begin to solve the problem when an epidemic of intestinal diseases occurs.

Teaching and vaccinating children's hand hygiene skills

The child should be taught the skills of hand hygiene. But how to do it? The child should step-by-step explain and it is possible to show the whole process visually.

So, how to wash your hands properly:

These rules are known to many children, but some of the items are not supposed to be implemented. Such items as soaping hands and wiping children is carried out hastily, without much care.

Learning process

The entire learning process should be carried out sequentially and begin better from an early age. A one-year-old child should already have an idea about the benefits of water, soap and cleanliness. Washing my baby, washing it, is advised to pronounce their actions. Then, in addition to their own will the child will understand the benefits of hand hygiene.

By the year the child is already able to stand up himself, that is why it is advised to start teaching him how to wash his hands properly, parents are recommended to help the child in difficult situations. After reaching a child of two years old, he can wash his own hands. While washing, the crochet lover should be near and follow the whole process. If the child is uncontrolled, then he needs to help him wash his hands in hard-to-reach places (wrists, back). Parental vigilance and control can be weakened when the child reaches the age of three. At this age, it will be enough to check the child's successes periodically.

It is not only important for the child to teach how to wash his hands, but also to do everything possible to make himself think about how important it is to wash his hands. The child should be frightened by terrible stories that if he does not wash his hands, he will fall ill. Children sometimes find themselves smarter than adults, so they quickly make their own conclusions. And if the child missed one wash of hands and did not get sick, then he can decide that all the stories are fictitious, and his hands are not necessary to wash.

For a child, hand washing should be a natural daily process, the same as dressing, combing. Remind the child that every time after going to the toilet, walking, playing, you need to wash your hands. In addition to this child should be said that it is not nice to walk with dirty hands. Always show that washing your hands is important and you need to use your own example.
