Bernese Mountain Dog, the history of the breed

Bernese Mountain Dog means "dog of alpine meadows". Today's Bernese Mountain Dog is a descendant of peasant Swiss dogs. For a long time in many areas of the country there were dogs of medium height and strong build, called "peasant spitz" or "cow dogs". This was the Bernese Mountain Dog.

History of the breed

The history of the breed is rooted in the old past. Even in the old texts there is a description of the breed of dogs, very similar to the representatives of the Bernese Mountain Dog. The Romans moved this breed of dogs to Helvetia through the Alps after Julius Caesar and his army routed the Helvetians. Helvetia eventually became a Roman province.

The Bernese Mountain Dog and the Swiss Alps are closely related concepts. About a hundred years ago, during the excavations of Vondoniss's former military colony, skulls of dogs were found, the size and size of which could be stated that the dogs were strong, in structure and size of bones are like a "butcher's dog". This was written by the doctoral student Kremer German from Zurich, who was able to track on the basis of the results of numerous excavations that discovered the remains of dogs of the Celtic period, the kinship of Celtic dogs with the Molossian from Rome.

Kremer suggested in 1899 that the Roman Molossus was transported first from India to Greece, and then to Italy. The basis for this statement was quoted from Roman and Greek literature. Thus, in our time in the cynological literature this version was fixed. It is considered correct opinion that the breed went from "Tibetan" dog to Roman moloss, then through "dog-shaped" Central European dog to the Bernese Mountain Dog.

Today's Mountain Dogs differ in color from Swiss dogs, which were predominantly red and brown. In the first place were the working qualities of dogs: the peasants needed an animal that could guard the house, look after the yard and be a good shepherd. Initially in the country, even before the beginning of the breeding of the pure breed of sennenhund, due to the isolation of the regions, local "breeds" were formed from each other. Due to the frequent crossing of close relatives, the "breeds" were fairly leveled in character, in type, relatively cleanly inherited.

Character

Sennenhund Bernese has its own special features. Someone is especially friendly, someone better than other breeds protects objects. Bernese Mountain Dog differs, first of all, by devotion to people. This is one of the kindest breeds of dogs you can rely on, which will never fail, will always be an excellent friend for young children and adults.

Following the qualities inherent in the genes, dog-sennenhunds perceive themselves as "subordinates", who are supposed to perform all the commands clearly. Therefore, the presence of other pets nearby is not problematic for this breed. Sennenhund is the best pet for your little child. Thanks to a special amazing character trait - the dog's high demand for herself, the sennenhund will become a wonderful nanny for fidget-babies and for pets. The dog is very faithful. True, only if the owner loves and cares for the dog, to protect her from troubles and troubles. Only in this version the dog will reciprocate. As they say, service for the service.

The dog is characterized by laziness and the desire to please the owner. To train a dog of breed sennenhund is for the most part a useless occupation. This breed of dogs, unlike most other breeds, tries to please the master, rather than learn how to accurately execute the team. Sporting events, taking into account the characteristics of the breed, is also not a favorite occupation of the sennenhunds. The dog will prefer to roll under the tree, hiding from the sun on a warm day. Work prefers shortly, alternating rest with difficulty after a short interval of time. Probably, such dogs are very suitable for elderly people who lead a quiet sedentary lifestyle.

Diseases of the dog

Unfortunately, this breed is not distinguished by excellent health, is susceptible to many diseases and needs careful care and frequent consultations of the veterinarian. For a darling, the dog should be carefully looked after, especially when the dog is aged.

One of the dangerous processes in the body of a dog is bloating. Overflow of the intestine with air can cause twisting of the intestines, which is a very life-threatening condition.

In different periods of life a dog-zennnehund can experience pain in the paws, back, get cataracts and even blindness. All this requires timely detection and adoption of medical measures. With age, the dog becomes like an old man, equally sick and vulnerable. Careful care will help prevent many health problems. In particular, caring for the dog's hair is important. Moult in Sennenhunds lasts all year round, which in itself is unusual. In the period of mild moulting, the dog will only need to comb twice a week, in other cases more often. It is better to cut out the knitted wool, although it is not recommended to cut a dog often. Also, do not give serious physical activity to this breed.

Care

Continued molting throughout the year is a great concern. The Sennenhunds molt strongly, and therefore, in order for the process to be more under the control of the master, one must carefully take care of the wool of this breed. Particular attention is given to combing the pet in a period of severe molt, so that the furniture in the house and everything else is not overcrowded with dog hair.

In periods of unexplained moult Bernese zenenhund it is possible to do combing once a week, perhaps even once every two weeks.

Confused or not cleansed from dirt, wool is best cut, though not too abusing it.

Large working dogs, which include the Bernese Mountain Dogs, should not be overburdened with heavy physical loads, especially since in the first place in this breed - devotion to the owner, rather than energy costs. This should be borne in mind when keeping the sennenhunds.
