Hawthorn, as an extremely useful medicinal plant, has acquired many different names among the people - it is known as the lady-tree, gland or boyars. It looks like a big bush or a low tree, not exceeding five meters in height, with large thorns on branches. Flowers have white hawthorns, blossoming in late May - early June, and it usually fructifies in August-September. It grows mainly in glades, on forest edges or in forests with insignificant vegetation.

The healing properties of hawthorn

In general, there are about 50 species of this plant, the medicinal properties of which are known since the XVI century, as a means to eliminate diarrhea, purify blood and improve sleep. Its useful qualities help to get rid of cardiovascular diseases, neuroses, arrhythmia and tachycardia, atherosclerosis and many others. Prepared for later use usually bark, hawthorn flowers and fruits, from which make tea, make tincture, extract or broth. Flowers are usually collected on a dry, sunny day during flowering, and dried in a shaded place without direct sunlight.

Recipes of broths and tinctures of hawthorn

Hawthorn in one form or another is often included in medicines, in addition to knowing that there are many ways to prepare tinctures and decoctions of it. Here are some of them, the most common:

  1. A tablespoon of dried flowers pour a glass of hot water and insist thirty minutes. Then strain and take half a cup before eating.
  2. Half a glass of vodka, take 10 grams of leaves and flowers, and let stand ten days. After that, the mixture is filtered, poured into a clean glass container and stored in a cool place. Accept recommended for violations of the heart.

  3. Atherosclerosis will help tincture of hawthorn flowers: finely cut three tablespoons of plant inflorescences, pour a hundred grams of vodka or spirat and insist in a dark place for about ten days, periodically shaking the container. Take 1 teaspoon 20 minutes before eating.
  4. A tablespoon of fruit is poured into 250 ml of boiling water and we insist for four hours, after filtering and drinking 2-3 tbsp. l. before eating.
  5. Boil 500 grams of water and pour there two tablespoons of dried hawthorn berries and cook for about ten minutes. Then remove from heat and leave to infuse for 1 hour. We store in the refrigerator and use 1 tbsp. l. tinctures before meals.
  6. With neuroses and frequent stresses, pour dry fruits 1 cup of boiling water, we insist 2 hours at room temperature and before meals we take two tablespoons.

It should be noted that there are no special contraindications to the use of medicinal tinctures and decoctions from the hawthorn, but nevertheless one should be more careful with their use if you suffer from hypotension, bradycardia, excessive blood coagulability, nurture a baby or breastfeed. Among other things, this plant can remove spasms, strengthen the supply of the heart and brain with blood, and, respectively, oxygen, which increases mental activity; moreover, it is indicated to diabetics, since it regulates the level of sugar in the blood.
