Home care in winter

Houseplants, as a rule, feel very much a decrease in temperature and a decrease in humidity. That's why, often, the flowers that sultry summer were a beautiful decoration of the apartment, with the onset of winter colds begin to wither and throw away the yellow leaves. And the whole point is that the basic conditions in which they feel themselves well have become less favorable for them, just for these reasons, the care of house colors in winter must necessarily differ from the summer period. We present a few tips for you, thanks to which you will be able to keep your indoor plants healthy and beautiful throughout the winter period.

We rearrange the thermophilic flowers.

The first rule of caring for home flowers in winter is your careful attitude to the location of indoor plants. After all, as a rule, they are usually on window sills, where in winter they can not only be in a draft, but if their foliage comes into contact with a cold window, it can get damaged and begin to crumble. The best care in this situation is if you place the house plants next to the windowsill, not on it. But as for heat-loving flowers (anthurium, begonia, monster, wax ivy, pineapple and aphelandra), it is better to put them away from the window in winter. The new location of flowers is also worth choosing very carefully, so as not to violate the light regime. By the way, those plants that can survive the winter on the window are recommended to turn regularly. This is due to the fact that in the winter season the sun is lower, so the flowers can begin to grow inclined due to the fact that they are drawn to the light. Also, if you notice the house colors that stand on the windowsill, that they are turning yellow and the foliage is falling, then immediately move them to a warm place.

And yet, you do not need to move pots with flowers from one place to another, traveling with them around the house. Flowers, as well as people, are inclined to get used to one place and if they are constantly rearranged it can adversely affect their health.

We shorten the watering.

Remember that in winter, plant growth slows, so it is best to avoid waterlogging the soil. If summer care for domestic plants includes daily watering or a day, then in winter it will be enough to water them, about once a week.

We follow the humidity of the air.

Proper care during the winter period includes periodic airing of the room and maintaining the necessary humidity in it. Many flowering plants (cyclamen, azalea, begonia, poinsettia) grow exceptionally well only in well-ventilated rooms. Do not deprive them of fresh air and now. But to air the apartment must also be neat - frosty air can be harmful to leaves and flowers.

In rooms with central heating, as a rule, low humidity. To create a moist microclimate around plants, it is possible with regular spraying or compositional arrangement (in the middle of the composition the air is more humid than around a stand-alone specimen). Also, you can create a moist environment, if you put pots of flowers in the middle of the container, where pebbles or other small pebbles are poured. This container with green pets should be filled with water and as it evaporates the plants will draw moisture.

We follow the sources of heat.

Such indoor flowers as cacti and succulents, on the contrary, feel much better in the winter season at a lower temperature. If these plants receive a lot of heat, they will simply dry up or become weak and begin to lose foliage. Therefore, they can safely not be moved to secluded and warm places. But if you moved pots with indoor flowers to another place, pay attention to the fact that your plants are located away from the fireplace or heater. Such care for flowers will do them no good and a lot of heat can confuse plants and even severely damage them and destroy them.

We are fighting pests.

At all it is not necessary to believe that in winter the pests are not at all interested in flowers. For example, a spider mite loves the winter very much. In order to help your green pets get rid of such pests, wash your room flowers every week under the shower or in the sink.

Feed up flowering plants.

Agree that it is always pleasant, when in the cold season of the house plants please us with wild flowering. But for this to happen, it is necessary to properly care for blooming green friends. During the emergence of buds and flowering plants are depleted, which means they need additional fertilizing. Do not forget to fertilize plants such as clerodendron, cyclamen, poinsettia, cleavage, begonium, evergreen, and azalea. Watering flowering plants in the cold season, recommended by slightly warm water.

Backlight for green friends.

An interesting fact is that for winter flowers winter actually begins as early as November. Just this month, there is a decrease in the duration of daylight hours and the flowers just begin to miss the necessary sunlight. For this it is necessary to illuminate them for two to three hours each day using electric light. In such care most need flowers such as fuchsia, begonia, roses and geraniums. Such illumination for these plants can be stopped already in February. Also do not forget, as often as possible to wipe the dust from indoor plants. After all, dirty and dusty foliage can not absorb enough light compared to pure.

We finish the winter care.

As a rule, in February, home plants begin to wake up from hibernation. This is where the time comes to put them in order and prepare for the mandatory spring transplant and the renewal of the earth in the pots. And lastly, remember that in a room where there are many colors, there must necessarily be two thermometers: one near the window, another among the plants, close to the floor. Do not forget to monitor the temperature and take timely measures and then your flowers will please you with their magnificent crowns all the cold season.
