How and when is it better to begin to accustom a child to a pot

Teaching hygienic skills is an important stage in the life of every child. However, how and when it is better to begin to accustom a child to a pot, not everyone knows. There are no universal recommendations - every kid develops in his own way.

The time has come? Disputes about when to start teaching a child to the pot, do not stop. Some refer to the experience of mothers and grandmothers who believed that the child should be taught to cleanliness skills from the moment he learns to sit, that is, from about six months. Others postpone the acquisition of a pot until the child is one year old, others do not hurry at all and wait for 2-3 years when the baby becomes more conscious. Whenever you decide to embark on a complex learning process, the main thing that you need to keep in mind is that children start asking for a pot when they are physically and mentally ripe for it. This natural process can not be affected either by affectionate persuasion, or by rigor. In the first year of life, the child is not yet in a position to control his discharge: his physiological postures take place reflexively, as the bladder and intestine fill. At this stage, the baby can only "catch" - for example, the chances are high that the child, waking up from sleep, will want "in a small way" - just at this time and you can offer him a pot. In order to make the attitude towards one's own conscience conscious, it is necessary for the child to form neural chains that provide the transmission of a "signal" from the bladder and intestine to the brain, and for this the baby has to grow a little more. Skills of cleanliness begin to form in the child in the period from 12 to 18 months: it is at this time that the muscles of the anus and the sphincter of the bladder become stronger, and the development of the baby's brain reaches a certain level. Complete control of the bladder and musculature of the rectum becomes possible by about three years. Usually, the child first forms control of the intestines at night, then - in the daytime, then - control of the bladder in the daytime, and lastly - in the night. In some children, bedwetting lasts up to 4-5 years - and this is normal and quite common. It is interesting that the girls begin to ask for a pot about 2-3 months earlier than the boys.

Girls outstrip the male sex and in some other respects: as a rule, they learn to sit earlier and make more grasping movements more cleverly. They have better developed coordination of vision and motor skills. Scientists suggest that this fact is due to the fact that the left and right hemispheres of the brain in girls and boys develop differently.

DO NOT BE AFRAID OF DIFFICULTIES!

To begin to accustom a child to a pot is not an easy process, requiring parents to pay attention and a lot of patience. Do not pursue quick results, do not expect that the child will master a complex "pottery" science in a couple of days, the main thing is that he will have a positive attitude to this process. First, introduce the baby to the pot, explain why it is needed. Give the child to touch a new interesting object, offer to sit on it. You can "lose" the situation on dolls, soft toys. It is necessary for the baby to realize for what purpose the pot is meant. In order for a child to develop a certain rhythm, plant it on the pot before and after meals, before and after the day's sleep, before night sleep and after awakening (and every day it should be at about the same time). If the child has turned out to need a "night vase", be sure to praise him for it, say that he is a good fellow. But if there is no result, leave it to sit on the pot for more than 10 minutes should not be. Never abuse a kid for misses, otherwise he will develop a negative attitude towards the very process of natural departure. The child, feeling that he needs to be relieved, can start hiding from you, trying to secretly do his affairs, or he will try to deliberately restrain the chair, which can lead to constipation. Try to remain very tactful and sensitive in these matters and do not rush time - after all, the baby is also uncomfortable walking in dirty pants. To wake a child at night in order to offer him to sit on a pot is not necessary: most likely, the baby will be very unhappy, and in addition to this, may later fall asleep. While the child is still being written at night, you can put him to sleep in disposable diapers or lay a waterproof sheet in bed. Try to keep track of those moments when the baby is going to "make a deal": usually before the departure of natural needs the child stops playing, becomes quiet, becomes concentrated - at this time and you need to bring him a pot. Over time, the kid himself will begin to tell you that he is ready for an important matter. True, this requires that the child has already begun to master speech. Perhaps he will come up with some specific words for this process. From the very beginning of learning the cleanliness skills, the pot should always stand in the kid's room, in sight, so that the child himself can try to sit on him, taking off his panties, or bring you a pot and so ask you to help him.

In that, when it is better to accustom a child to a pot, the experts are in solidarity. The ideal time to get acquainted with the pot is summer. Since the clothes on the baby is usually a little, he can easily handle it on his own. And if the child and soak panties, they can be washed and dried in the sun. For the duration of training it is better to stop using disposable diapers. When the baby is constantly in diapers, he does not have a state of discomfort after urinating, which means there is no desire to get rid of this condition. Another thing - wet panties: walking in them is very unpleasant, and this is a good incentive to start using the pot.

THE MOST CONVENIENT POT

Fortunately, the times when children had to master cold enamelled pots, have become a thing of the past. Now the process has become pleasant in all respects: plastic pots are not only comfortable, warm, light, but also beautiful. Some of them are made in the form of toys - dogs, ducklings, machines, etc. A few minutes spent on such a pot will not leave any unpleasant sensations. Some parents, trying to give their children the best, buy pots with squeaks, flashing lights, music. However, it is not necessary to take a great interest in this: the child should not forget what is the main goal of his stay on this subject. The most suitable model of the pot for boys - with an inflated front: with such a pot is less likely that the spray accidentally scattered to the sides. Approximately two years, you can teach the boy to write on the pot standing. Once your baby is friends with the pot, it will become one of the most vital items for the child. Therefore, going to the cottage, on a visit, on a trip, do not forget that it must be taken. This can be a "road" version - a small, lightweight and simple pot (it is better to introduce the baby to a new pot in advance, since some children, having already got used to their pot, sometimes refuse to use a thing they do not know). From the pot you can gradually move to the toilet. To facilitate this process, you can buy a special child seat on the toilet: it will be more comfortable for the child. In addition, you can buy a small footrest in the children's goods store, so that the baby can use it to climb the toilet and put the legs on it. No matter how difficult it seems to you to teach a child the skills of cleanliness, sooner or later he will master this science, most importantly - be patient and treat the situation calmly. Do not compare your baby with other children, do not nod at neighbor Vasya - every child develops at his own pace. And do not panic if your child's process is a little delayed. Everything has its time.

DEVELOPMENT OF SKILLS IN MONTHS

The ability to control the bladder in children from birth to about the age of four is approximately the same. The way and when it is better to begin teaching a child to a pot to cope with his needs, depends on the age features.

0-18 months. In the first months of life, the baby is wetted up to 25 times a day. This happens unconsciously - at the moment when the musculature of the wall of the bladder. Approximately at the age of six months the infant begins to urinate a little less often (about 20 times). This is a sign that the child's neural pathways continue to develop, the muscles of the bladder cease to contract constantly and now it is able to contain more urine.

18-30 months. The baby gradually develops a perception of fullness of the bladder and a feeling of urge to urinate. Now the child can already connect the signals of his body with the filling of the bladder - before he was simply not capable of it. Many children can control the sphincter of the bladder at the earliest from the second year of life, and in most cases only in the third year. Then they feel the urge to urinate even before the bladder becomes full.

From the fourth year of life, most children can delay the sending of a small need for a while, even if they feel the urge to urinate. They are also able to pee "just in case", even with a slight filling of the bladder. The main thing is that it does not become a habit.
