How to choose the right oysters

Oyster is a bivalve mollusk, many of its species are suitable for food. For 2000 years oysters are bred and eaten, our people were not spoiled with this product before. Now the situation has changed. And every self-respecting supermarket has oysters on the counter, although the choice is not great, they are expensive, but on occasion you can pamper yourself with this delicacy.

How to choose the right oysters?

As experts say, oysters need to be bought from September to April, and only in those months, in the name of which there is a letter "p". The season of reproduction of oysters begins from May to August. You can certainly eat them at this time, but during the breeding season they are fat and such a taste, perhaps not everyone will like it.

Real gourmets eat only live oysters. They have tightly closed shells. It is very simple to check the live or not oyster, if you take a little bit to open the sink, if it is alive - the sink will immediately shut. Usually oysters from 5 cm to 14 cm in length, some species grow to 45 cm. If the shells are tightly closed, this is an indicator of absolute freshness and health. And slightly ajar, when they do not close, this indicates that the oysters have died. Inside the oyster there is water, which it feeds and if the shell is empty, then there is nothing for her to eat. Empty shells with a dried oyster and spilled juice can be distinguished by sound, if you knock on the leaf.
