In Iraq, a fashion show was held. For the first time in 30 years

The last fashion show in Iraq took place in the 80s of last century. Already for about thirty years in the country there are strict Muslim laws that exclude the very concept of "fashion". In the light of this event, the Baghdad Fashion Show, recently held at Royal Tulip, one of the most respectable hotels in Baghdad, attracted more than five hundred spectators, indeed it is a unique event.

Despite strict Islamic traditions and a long internal political conflict, there are people in the country who are able to create fashion - six Iraqi designers presented their models on a fashion show. And the defile in the dresses they created sixteen models, which - and this is also unique - are local residents. The fact is that the profession of the mannequin in Iraq is no less dangerous than the soldier's service - it is deadly dangerous. Of course, the girls who passed along the catwalk in the show did not open their faces - according to the strict Islamic rules, they were wrapped from head to foot.

In addition to models that risk their lives on the podium, designers deserve admiration - they have to create in the very strict framework - the same silhouette, no neckline, mini or midi, invariably a long sleeve ... I wonder how European couturiers would cope with this task - would they be able to develop at least a couple of different models from each other?

The fashion show was organized in order to somehow support the society, to distract the people from the grim reality, to show that in life, besides war, there is still beauty. Sinan Kamel - one of the organizers of the event, who managed to talk to journalists - expressed the hope that the Baghdad Fashion Show will become a traditional event.
