Pain: research methods

Pain is an important warning signal of the body, informing the person about trauma, burn, inflammation and other disorders. Pain causes specific sensitive cells, called pain receptors. Pain can be blunt, stitching, burning, pulling, pressing and in the form of colic. Diffuse pain can cover a certain part of the body. The more intense the pain, the more severely the patient suffers from it.

There is no need to completely "cut off" the pain, because pain is an important symptom for diagnosing the illness that caused it. Unbearable pain must be reduced. Do not use painkillers for minor pain, because side effects are typical for all painkillers, and some of them are addictive.
Pain can be reduced by eliminating its cause, or by "blocking" the ways of its spread. Several methods can be mentioned here.
The pain is quenched by administering the medicine directly to the sore spot or near the nerve, through which painful impulses spread. Such a drug interrupts the spread of the pain signal, and then for a limited time the pain stops.
There are many pain killers of different strengths that suppress or reduce the sensation of pain. They (depending on each case) can be used in the form of tablets, suppositories, syrup or injections. However, these drugs suppress only the symptom of the disease, and not its cause.
Recently in large hospitals of some countries there are more and more clinics and laboratories engaged in ways to alleviate chronic pain that occurs as a result of certain diseases. Anesthesiologists, neurologists and psychotherapists work here.
It is often enough to apply a cold compress, an ice bag or use cooling aerosols to a sore spot. To improve blood circulation and provide an anesthetic effect, microwave therapy, warm baths, and a quartz lamp are prescribed. Some pain can be reduced with the help of massage, medical gymnastics or other means.
Chronic pain can be reduced by therapeutic hypnosis, autogenic training, or other methods based on suggestion.
To reduce pain, acupuncture and acupressure are suitable. These methods of anesthesia in China are applied even during the operation.
It is impossible to offer one particular method of treating pain, because the nature of pain can be different. Short, acute pains (most often caused by trauma) are usually treated with medications. In this case, sometimes you have to use several different drugs, until you find the most effective. With chronic pain, you should try to use less potent drugs than with acute pains, since they have an undesirable side effect (most of them affect the gastric mucosa, some are addictive).
Most painkillers can be purchased in a pharmacy without a prescription, should be used no more than 2-3 days. If during this time the pain does not pass or strengthens, then it is necessary to consult a doctor (for severe pain it is recommended to call the medical emergency service).
If you have regular pain in the face, then only a quartz lamp will help you. With the introduction of an analgesic drug at the site of the branching of the main nerve, severe pain in the chest soon decreases. Therefore, in case of severe pain, it is still worthwhile to see a doctor.
