Sugar syrup Gold syrup, which is translated into English as "Golden syrup", is one of the main ingredients for the preparation of many English and American sweets and desserts. It looks very similar to honey, and has about the same consistency. But it is prepared from sugar, water and lemon juice. Yes, it's that easy! The birth of Golden syrup is attributed to the 19th century, when at one Scottish factory for the first time they begin to process "waste" from the production of sugar in order to obtain a product that can be stored for a long time and used in baking. Since that time, Gold syrup has become an integral part of English cuisine. Tip: if the syrup is too thick, then heat the jar and, adding a little water, heat and bring to a more liquid consistency. Unfortunately, guess the exact consistency of the syrup is very difficult at the preparation stage, but with experience you will definitely find it. Store Gold syrup for up to a year in a well-closed jar. Ingredients:
- Sugar 400g
- Water boiled 200 ml
- Lemon juice 50 ml
Instructions - Step 1 For the preparation of Golden Syrup you will need sugar, drinking water and freshly squeezed lemon juice.
- Step 2 In a stainless steel saucepan and a thick bottom, mix the water and sugar. Stir well to allow all sugar to dissolve. Bring to a boil, then add the juice of the squeezed lemon. On very low heat, leave the liquid for about 45 minutes, do not bother.
- Step 3 The temperature should be about 110 ° C. Temperature is very important, because it affects the crystallization of sugar and the consistency of the syrup. When the syrup begins to acquire the color of honey, check the consistency for fluidity. The syrup should not be thick at this stage, but a little bit softer than honey.
- Step 4 Pour the still hot syrup into a sterile jar and let cool. After 1-2 days the syrup will take the desired consistency of honey.
