Reproduction of indoor plants by cuttings

A large number of indoor plants are grown with stem cuttings, this is the most common method. There are houseplants that let their roots in the water, and there are those that, on the contrary, need hothouse conditions and hormone treatment.

The multiplication of many plants occurs from cuttings taken from the top of the shoot in the spring or summer.

Method of preparing cuttings for reproduction of indoor plants. Cut the cuttings should be over the kidney, remove the lower leaves near the cuttings. Cut the need with a sharp washed knife, an oblique cut just under the eye, without damaging the twigs. If the leaves of the cuttings of the plant contain a lot of water, then before planting it is necessary to dry it. If the cuttings are herbaceous, then you need to plant at a depth of one to two centimeters, if the cuttings are wooden, then deeper. To cuttings are better rooted, this requires moist air, and cover them with glass containers or a plastic bag. If the house plant is juicy, fleshy, then its cover is not necessary.

Cuttings of plants that are difficult to take root or those that were cut off during the unfavorable period of the year - late autumn, rooting should be done with the help of special growth stimulators. It is necessary to dip the shank into powder, and then in a specially prepared pot a pit is made with a sharp object. The stalk is placed in the soil, the earth is pressed slightly and covered with a glass container or package.

Reproduction of indoor plants by cuttings requires careful preparation and subsequent care. Care for cuttings should be so: sprinkle them with warm water, spray regularly, wipe the damp glass or package, shade from the sun. It is important to carry out airing twice a day in the morning and evening hours. If there are rotting cuttings, they must necessarily be removed from the common utensils with cuttings. Save the shank is possible, if only the heel has decayed. To do this, cut the stem to a healthy part and again put it in clean water, which should be added with activated charcoal. The root is planted already in the pot, but within one or two days after the transplantation it should be protected from direct sunlight. Such plants as azaleas, roses, various conifers, camellia will be more useful for rooting in a moist solid substance, for example, in a mixture of fine peat and sand, which must be boiled beforehand, then dried, but that it remains moist and not moist. Cacti and similar houseplants can be propagated with stem stems, nipples, leaves and parts of leaves. The stalk or leaf is cut with a sharp object, for example, with a razor, the surface of the cut is dried for a long time, then planted in coarse-grained sand, moderately moistened. In the light, but not a place with abundant sun, about a month later the roots appear, then at the base of the leaves young plants. Fresh and live marsh moss serves as an excellent material for rooting the cuttings. To root a stalk of a large houseplant with a thick tree trunk, an air-drop method of propagation must be used. The lower end of the cut should be wrapped in foam rubber and inserted into the wide opening of the inverted pot, placing the pot on a plate with wet marsh moss. In order for the house plant to take root it should be placed in the light at 26-28 ° C, every day pour hot or warm water in a bowl with moss. Naturally, that any indoor plant can not take root, it should not be upset, it is just always necessary to select several cuttings at once.

Reproduction of indoor plants with cuttings includes a method of reproduction by pieces of a trunk.

There are such indoor plants, in which a thick and straight stem, pieces of it, too, reproduction. The stalk is cut from the old, discarded leaf of the stem. The bare trunk needs to be divided into several parts and each planted in loose ground, horizontally or vertically. The stem must have at least one bundle and be about five to seven centimeters long. The kidneys should be pointed upwards. And for some indoor plants, the stems are rather short, and leaves in the form of rosettes. In this case, cut the stem stem will not work. Such a plant can easily be propagated by a leaf cut. For this it is necessary to take a mature leaf at the base of the plant. The stem of the leaf should be about 5 cm in length. Then cut the petiole exactly across with a sharp blade of a knife or razor. End the petiolate in the phytohormone fluid. Place the cutting in the ground so that the bottom of the sheet is directed towards the wall of the pot. The base of the sheet should not touch the ground, which should be crushed with a wooden stick. Make a deepening with a slope of 45 °.

Rose, citrus fruits reproduce with a leaf in the presence of an axillary bud. A sharp blade is cut off with a leaf with an axillary bud and a piece of a trunk measuring 2 cm. Put the stalk in a bowl, cover it with glass containers, and put it on a bright spot. Within a month you can expect rooting.

Massive house plants are more difficult to cut. This should be done between June and mid-September. So cuttings will not be difficult to take root in a period of profuse growth. You can propagate most houseplants with cuttings at any time of the year. But a positive result is possible in the case when the plant actively grows or has already finished it. Roses speak of the readiness of reproduction for the presence of flowering. In coniferous plant species, root formation is better after the winter period. Each plant has its own time for propagation. But the time of year will not matter if you have the opportunity at any time of the year to ensure a planting temperature of 21-25 degrees. If there are no such conditions for reproduction of indoor plants, it would be more appropriate to do this in the spring or summer using organic and mineral fertilizers.
