When the Muslim New Year 2015

The Muslim year differs from the year in the Gregorian calendar. It is always shorter by 11-12 days, because it is based on the lunar calendar, and not sunny. The first Muslim month is called Muharram. So, on the first day of Muharram and celebrate the Muslim New Year, that is, the date of this holiday is floating, and it changes from year to year, if we consider it according to the generally accepted Gregorian calendar.

When the new year for the Muslim calendar in 2015

In 2014, according to the Muslim calendar, 1436 was celebrated, and this means that in 1437 they will meet 1437. The date of this event falls on October 15, 2015.

Muslims do not have special rites, which are adhered to during the meeting and celebrating the new year. It is only considered that in the first ten days of the coming year, it is necessary to start new ventures - and then they will surely be crowned with success. That is, during this period, for example, it is best to celebrate a wedding, start building a house. In families during the celebration they try to cover a solemn table, on which there is couscous and various meat dishes. A mandatory dish during the Muslim New Year is boiled eggs, specially painted in green. They symbolize the birth of a new life, the beginning of something new. Supper at the festive table without the host is not accepted - the main man in the house should first start the meal and finish it, then the year in the family will be happy and stable.

Muslim New Year in Hijra: holiday features

The Muslim calendar has its name - Hijra. In some countries it is recognized as official. Another important difference, apart from the fact that it consists of 355/356 days, is that the countdown of new days starts from the moment of sunset, and not at twelve o'clock in the morning. And the months, according to the Muslim calendar, begin 1-3 days after the new moon, when one can observe the appearance of the moon in the form of a sickle.

It is worth noting that the first day of the first month of Muharram is not included in the list of Islamic holidays, so in many Muslim countries it is not celebrated as a social event with a feast. On this day, people simply visit mosques where they pray and listen to the sermon on the relocation of the Prophet Muhammad in 622, which then changed Mecca to Medina.

But still many Muslims believe in the signs associated with the new year. For example, they believe that a person must live Muharram as he wants, so that he will go through the next year. Allah has forbidden during this month any wars, conflict situations both at the family level and at the national level. In the Quran in general, the period from 1 Muharram is called the month of repentance and service to Allah.

As you can see, in general, the Muslim New Year looks like a Christian one. People also arrange a feast, attend church, and try to make the coming year happy with the help of traditions.
