An interesting conversation with the singer Jamalo

It, without doubt, became the loudest opening of this year. The primacy at the contest "New Wave" provided Jamal with a new round of her musical career. What does the singer live today? We had an interesting conversation with singer Jamala. Jamala, your career started with ... opera. Tell me how it was.
At first my mom loved the opera, then made her love me. (Laughs.) Why did she? Because when I was in college, I did not want to sing classics - I was already fond of jazz. And these two styles seemed to me incomparable. But every year academic vocal opened up to me in a new way. I understood that he is the basis. In addition, it was necessary to go on improving jazz vocals, for example, in Miami. Here nobody could teach him to me. But the opera could.

What kind of a student were you?
Probably, I seemed to someone capricious, as it was translated from the teacher to the teacher. But I was just looking for "my". I am glad that in the end I really fell in love with the classics. After graduation she dreamed of getting into our Kiev theater. Even auditioned. Why did not pass - I do not know. Of course, upset. But I had jazz, which smoothed the shock of refusal. But for forty of my classmates, who also auditioned that day and did not pass, it was a tragedy. Listening took place in the summer, and in September my CD got to Lena Kolyadenko, who already then decided to create a musical.
How did it get to your CD? With your feed?
No. I do not know how he got her. Stars, fate - whatever you want, call. Lena called me and offered to cooperate.
And who came up with the idea to go to the "New Wave"?
Lene. After the Kiev party had looked at the musical several times, we had a pause. And in this pause Lena suggested that I go to the "Wave".
Someone considers the "New Wave" an excellent start, someone - a secondary contest, not playing a special role in the development of the singer's career.

And what did this contest give you?
Before the trip we very well weighed everything. Lena asked me if I knew other competitions that would be primarily vocal. And we unanimously decided that the most suitable is "Volna". I was lucky, because in the year of my participation in the contest there were no random contestants. All 16 people are worthy musicians and competitors.
"The face" of Jamala in the show-biz is already fully created, or is the project still in development? Well, you see the face in front of you - it's me! (Laughs.) I, rather, about the image ...
In this and the chip - to change every day and at the same time remain yourself. This is the essence of Jamala. Her main pivot is music, and she can wear any hairstyle or turban. What is happening in your work now? Now I'm writing music and I want enough songs to be collected from which you can select the right amount for the album. I want it to be an album that everyone will like. Not in the sense that he will love both old and young, but that it is eternal music, which will not get tired in a few years or decades. In what style will you sing? I do not know how to pinpoint it, but I think it will be a mixture of jazz, foul, punk, modern electric sounds ... We plan to use live instruments. Someone even wrote me on the forum: "Well, it's some kind of Jamala-jazz!" Maybe. It's also impossible to say what style Bjork or Radiohead is playing.
You are often compared to someone. It does not offend?
Does not offend. It strikes me that they compare me to musicians who are completely different from each other. If I am one - the embodiment of all of them together, then I'm special. Well, really - I'm compared to Bjork, Zhanna Aguzarova, Amy Winehouse. And these are completely different singers.

What else gives you the same pleasure as your work?
(Thinking.) Nothing. If I do not sing, then I compose. Or reread poetry. And yet - if you did not sing, then ... ... I would be a veterinarian! I love elephants, rhinoceroses and all other big animals. It seems to me that for all their size they are very helpless. This, incidentally, applies to people. The larger the musician - the more vulnerable he is. The same Michael Jackson. It was a vulnerable genius. Do you have a beloved man? There is a person who I like, but I can not call him loved. There are girls who saw a man - and that's all, they can not live without him. For me, the relationship is the process of knowing. What should a man be to become your favorite?
Very positive and kind. I understand that men get very much, because a real man is a breadwinner. A woman may not work. And under no circumstances should a man fall into a state of lostness. But then if this happens, my man should still be an optimist. I, in fact happen in different states, and I need a number of people who can turn any situation into a holiday.
What is unacceptable for you in relationships?
(Thinking.) It's hard to say. If anything annoys me in communication, I stop it.

Are you one of those young ladies who, since childhood, dream of getting married, wearing a white dress, bringing up children?
No. I never dreamed of this. I love children, but I'm not ready to be a mother. Someone feels ready to give birth at 30, someone - at 20. All individually. I'm still a child, not always responsible, I can forget something, leave it. I know that your sister is also a musician ... Yes, and very good, she graduated from the conservatory post-graduate course. Lives in Istanbul. Recently she gave birth to a daughter and now she always gives it to her. But he plans to return to music and continue playing dombra. She is a unique performer. And loves everything I do. I read that you had a "decent oriental upbringing."

What was forbidden from what you terribly wanted?
I wanted to go to discos, in the ninth class, but they did not let me. It was interesting to watch films about love, but always, when kisses started, I was sent to put the kettle on. But I am grateful for such upbringing. Having left at the age of 14 from my parents' home in Simferopol, I already knew what was good and what was bad.
who are your friends?
Ordinary people. One friend is a girl with whom we lived next door, on the other we met at the conservatory. When they composed something, they were my first listeners, and I really appreciate it.
An interesting conversation with the singer Jamala was successful.
