Breastfeeding after mastitis

We all know that breastfeeding is very important for proper physical development. But the current science has invented a lot of all kinds of mixtures that are almost identical in composition to breast milk. That is why many refuse to breast-feed. And few people think that it is much more important for a child to have a unity with his mother, a sense of security, the need and the peace that it gives.

So we decided that we will breastfeed. The huge problem faced by moms who gave birth to the first child is mastitis. In this article, we will not consider options, how to avoid it, and what to do if it is just beginning. Consider the most terrible development of events - this purulent mastitis, which was opened surgically.

So, we will have to go through not the most pleasant month or two, the most difficult first two weeks. The main thing is not to despair. In a month - two 70% of mothers switch from artificial feeding to fully breastfeeding, 20% - to mixed, and only 10% can not get a lactation.

So, mastitis was opened. And then there are two options for the development of events: the first option - the breast on which mastitis was opened, can be expressed, and the second - it can not be expressed.

The first situation is more favorable as it is not necessary to completely stop lactation. With this development of events, antibiotics are being injected all the time, the baby is on artificial feeding, and the mother decantes both breasts every 3 hours. After the end of taking antibiotics, we give the body time to take them out (we have to specify how much exactly the doctor) and attach the baby to the breast. There may be a problem, rejection of the breast after the bottle, but if the bottle had the correct nipple, then the rejection is extremely rare.

If the breast can not be decontaminated, proceed as follows. After the operation, we take a pill to stop lactation. But not as in the instructions for the half 4 times, and first half and in 12 hours another half a tablet. Breast bandage is not necessary, the milk will simply burn in one and the other breast. Then the most difficult and responsible stage begins. The tablet was drunk and about the sick chest was forgotten, and the healthy one is decanted every 3 hours. At night, a break of 4 hours is allowed, but not more. It is necessary to remember the main thing, the more we express, the sooner the milk will come. The first 48 hours of its number will decrease and can reach 5 grams. Then from 7 to 14 days, its amount will be approximately the same from 5 to 15 grams. Here the main patience and support of relatives. Everything will turn out for us, and the milk will begin to arrive. As in the first case, once the antibiotics are released from the body, you need to put the baby to the chest, but in this case only to a healthy one. Scheme this every three hours give the baby a breast (10-15 minutes), and only after that we give the mixture. If possible, baby is applied, and in breaks between feedings. It is possible that a child refuses to suck an empty breast, anyway, we give each time before feeding and in the intervals. When the milk appears, he will gladly start to suck. Then give the baby a mixture and decant the breast for another 15 minutes. Even if a few drops emanate from the chest, or nothing at all, our task is to stimulate it and milk will come. A maximum of 2 weeks later we will see that lactation is improving, and in a couple of weeks we will be able to switch if not completely breastfeeding, then at least mixed.
Summarize. The amount of milk depends on the head, and hence on our mood. If we want every day to experience the inexpressible feelings when breastfeeding and give them to your child, then we will succeed.

I am writing this from personal experience. After the complete cessation of lactation due to the dissection of purulent mastitis, a month later went completely to breastfeeding. To the son of 5 months I feed only a healthy breast without addition of additives and mixes. So the main spirit and confidence that everything will turn out. Do not be afraid and good luck to you!
