Development of abilities in children with autism

"Rain Man" - indisputably psychologically strong Hollywood film, at one time romanticized autism as a phenomenon. In fact, it is quite a serious illness, almost not amenable to treatment. The brain is the most complex and mysterious organ of the human body, it is in it that this disease is formed. An exact definition of autism as a phenomenon of human nature does not exist, but based on the etymology of the word, the autistic person "plunges into himself." It was this definition (from the Greek autos-itself, in itself) that was picked up in the distant 1943 by psychiatrist Leo Kanner, who observed 11 cases of an identical disease previously unknown.

Child development as a problem

An accurate diagnosis should be made after a series of examinations of the child by a doctor as a psychiatrist, to whose field, in fact, the disease belongs. The most important problem facing parents of autistic children is the subsequent development of the child. After all, this disease is quite multifaceted and there are plenty of variants of its course. For example, with the most serious form of the disease, complete detachment of a person from the outside world is observed. The impression that the patient's mind is enclosed in a kind of cocoon, it is almost impossible to break out of it. For another group of patients, there is excessive conservatism, in which they show abilities only to what they like, everything else is actively rejected. For those closest to ordinary people, the presence of inhibition in actions, excessive vulnerability and defenselessness is characteristic. There is a strong dependence on the closest environment, first of all, from the parents. Such patients are guided by the notion of "correctness" in everything.

Development of abilities in autistic children

The development of various abilities in children with autism has long been the subject of statistical research. The experts confirmed the coefficient of mental development of autists, equal to 70 points out of 100 possible. It turns out that 10% of patients with autism have outstanding abilities, while for ordinary people this figure is within 1%. True, here the qualitative differences of mental development are radical in nature. If some children are able to solve the most complicated mathematical equations, copying great artists to the smallest detail, then others, the majority, are very close to oligophrenics in general development. The sources of this imbalance, especially the emergence of extraordinary abilities, are unknown to science until now. Surveys and communication with autists lead, basically, to one description that the patients themselves "see" the ready solutions among a set of figures and words. The main areas in which different abilities for suffering from this disease manifest themselves are mathematics, music, painting and design. Autists have one more characteristic feature, which is the desire for order in everything. There is an eccentric desire to turn any mess into a stable, closed system.

The development of such abilities in the Western world is a matter of special concern on the part of the authorities and not only. Specialized centers for the care and study of autistics are created, and those endowed with the "genius of genius" are nurtured and even used to create various benefits for the rest of the world. So, according to unconfirmed reports, Microsoft employs between 5 and 20% of autistic staff. This approach is certainly worthy of respect, however, on the other hand, the growth rate of the disease increases every year, and in no case should one close eyes, even for the talented 10%.
