Diabetes mellitus during pregnancy

Pregnancy in a woman's life is a period of change. The process of pregnancy and childbirth with diabetes of 1 and 2 degrees is very painful and if you do not take appropriate measures, it can harm the health of the unborn child. Diabetes mellitus during pregnancy greatly complicates the process of pregnancy, but it is still possible to alleviate it.

Various medications have many side effects, and drugs for diabetes are no exception. Each medicine in case of diabetes has a risk for the future child, therefore during pregnancy of the future mother should stop taking medications. A pregnant woman with grade 2 diabetes who constantly takes pills should switch to taking insulin, which should be done before the pregnancy begins. Therefore, women with diabetes of grade 2 need to plan their pregnancy in advance. Also, insulin will have to be taken to those expectant mothers who can dispense with special medications and control their illness with the help of proper diet and special gymnastics. This transition does not mean that a future mother with diabetes will have to break the course of treatment, but on the contrary, it will help the body to transfer the process of pregnancy and childbirth easier in case of diabetes.

During the first eight weeks of pregnancy, the organs of the future baby begin to form, and in the blood of the pregnant woman the sugar level begins to rise, which in turn can lead to very serious complications that can lead to the development of heart disease or the occurrence of miscarriage. Women who were able to normalize blood sugar before pregnancy, do not carry an additional risk at the birth of the child compared to healthy future mothers. Therefore, the process of pregnancy planning and the use of reliable methods of contraception play a very important role in pregnancy and childbirth in diabetes, until the blood sugar level reaches a normal level.

Advance planning of the future mother of her pregnancy will allow to reach the normal level of glucose and hemoglobin A1c in the blood or at least bring to the recommended level. The American Diabetes Academy advises that before you get pregnant you should achieve the following blood sugar levels:

- 80/110 mg / dL - this is an indicator before eating;

- no more than 155 mg / dg two hours after a meal, and the level of hemoglobin in the blood should be that of a healthy person.

According to statistics, 25 percent of pregnant women with diabetes have complications: in the womb around the baby, too much water accumulates around the baby, which, in the absence of appropriate measures, can trigger the onset of premature pregnancy. In order to avoid these complications doctors prescribe pregnant bed rest and ensure control over compliance with blood sugar levels.

When giving birth to pregnant women who have diabetes, they can trigger the birth of a too large baby. When the weight of the baby is over 4 kilograms - this is called macrosomia. This phenomenon can contribute to the occurrence of difficulty in childbirth, and there is a risk that the child can receive birth trauma.

Children born from such mothers often have low blood sugar, low calcium, difficulty in breathing organs. When diabetes increases the risk of a dead child, the poet during pregnancy must constantly be under the control of the treating physician and take all the necessary tests.

Perhaps every woman with diabetes is afraid of all these dangers, so it is important for such future moms to think about planning a pregnancy. And if the blood sugar level is brought to normal, then there will be no problems with pregnancy and childbirth in case of diabetes.
