What do we know about George Millar, his biography, his films? George was born in Moscow on November 7, 1903. In fact, Millar first did not carry such a name. The actor's biography tells us that his father was a French engineer, an engineer by profession, Franz de Mille. He came to Russia to advise Russian specialists in the field of engine building. And then love came to him in the person of Elizaveta Zhuravleva. So began the Russian biography of his father. Unfortunately, George did not remember his father well. He died when the boy was not even three years old. But, nevertheless, Millar could never complain of a harsh childhood. His mother had dachas in the suburbs, a large apartment. The boy was brought up by a governess. Since childhood, Millar very much loved art in general, and theater, in particular. The fact that his aunt was a theatrical actress, who often took the boy to the theater, where he realized that the profession of the actor is very interesting and bright, albeit difficult. George tried to perform since childhood. Of course, his first viewers were relatives and the boy did not always succeed. But he already knew "Faust" at the age of seven and even tried to play Mephistopheles.
But his childhood ended when the revolution broke out. Back in 1914, my mother realized that great changes are coming, and they obviously will not be for the better. Therefore, it was decided to send George to his grandfather in Gelendzhik. In addition, the mother changed her name to Millar. He lived with his grandfather for five years. During that time, much has changed. His family remained without apartments, dachas and money. The Soviet government took away everything. Georgi understood that now he should not be proud of his foreign roots. For the time being, he tried never to say that he speaks French and German well. At that time such knowledge could lead to sad consequences.
When George finished school, he was already fully confident in his choice - to become an artist. But, since there were difficult times, George could not go to school. So he went to the local theater and started working as a prop. Everyone noted the diligence of a young man. But he did not hope for the role. However, luck came to the future favorite of Soviet viewers quite unexpectedly. This happened in 1920, when the boy was seventeen years old. Ill got one of the leading actresses, who played Cinderella. And Millar had the opportunity to fulfill this role. Although she was female, the young man brilliantly played the character and the audience was delighted. Thanks to this, the theater management realized that the kid is really talented and, little by little, he began to perform other roles.
In 1924 George finally managed to return to Moscow. There he enrolled in the Junior School at the Moscow Theater of the Revolution. Initially, he did not like the teachers, because he had tangible problems with the diction, besides, the guy had a specific appearance. However, he again impressed everyone with his talent and no one else made any claims against him.
After the training was over, Millar went to work in the theater. He played a fairly large number of diverse roles, until he got into the movies. The first film in which Millar played, as, indeed, all subsequent films, was a film-fairy tale. It was "By the Pike's Command." It was in this picture that for the first time people saw Millar in a significant role, although he had already previously starred in small episodes. There Millar played King of the Pea. Director Alexander Rou realized that this person can brilliantly play fabulous characters. Therefore, in his next film, which was called "Vasilisa the Beautiful," Millar played Babu Yaga. Next was Kashchei the Immortal. Then he was the Devil from "Evenings on a Farm Near Dikanka", Kavak in "Mary-Iskustnitsa", Miracle-Yud in "Varvara-Krasus, a Long Spit." He was always called the most charming impure force of Soviet cinema. If necessary, Millar was both terrible and grotesque. But, at the same time, he was able to charm his audience. The children both feared and loved him at the same time. His most favorite character was Baba-Yaga, whom he played more than once. Millard treated her like a real person, with his own history, character and problems. Yes, George Millar is a fairy-tale actor and we all remember him, first of all, in fairy tales. However, he played in other films. While his roles were episodic, he so brilliantly embodied his characters, that they simply could not remember. But, though Millar loved his roles and his characters very much, he was still not completely satisfied that he was seen only by an evil spirit or an eccentric little man. For example, he always dreamed of playing Suvorov, but, unfortunately, he could not translate his dream into reality.
Millar always had a kind and very cheerful character. He liked to joke and fool around, but his jokes were always benevolent and no one took offense at the actor. Millar had no wife or children. He always lived with his mother in a communal apartment. And when he was sixty-five, he had a new neighbor - Maria Vasilievna. She was sixty, but, nevertheless, even in old age people can love. He and Millar were married and lived in marriage for another twenty-five years. Millar was really happy. He passed away before he reached his ninetieth birthday just five months. And to the last day remained a kind and generous man, loved by children and adults.
