Gia Karaji: 26 years in search of love

Ji Karaji is a woman who, despite her short life, has left a bright mark in the modeling world. She became a supermodel before the term even appeared. All her life she was looking for love, but she did not find it ... In the end, Gia died at 26 and she became one of the first known women in America, who died of AIDS.
Gia was born in an ordinary American family. Her father had a whole network of eateries. Up to 11 years, Gia lived in a full family, when the girl was 11 years old her mother left the family. From that moment on, the girl was torn between her father and mother, so she was not receiving any love. Over time, she met her future best friend Karen Karaz. Both girls are fanatics from David Bowie.

As a teenager, the girl began to work part-time in one of her father's cafes. Mother Gia saw the beauty of her daughter and tried to attach her to the modeling industry. The girl's mother thought that this factor would help in the upbringing of the girl. At the age of 17 she was noticed. A year later, she moved to New York. In this city she was noticed by Wilhelmina Cooper. She is a former model, and at that time she had her own modeling agency. Wilhelmina as she said that when she saw this 18-year-old girl, she immediately realized that before her is not a one-day model, but a girl who will conquer the world.

During the first three months, Gia worked on small projects, and later photographer Arthur Elgort photographed her for the magazine Bloomingdale, he introduced her to people like Richard Avedon, as well as representatives of Vogue and Cosmo. While working on the project for Vogue magazine, photographer Kriya Won Wenzhenheim suggested that Gia stay after working on the main project in order to take a few pictures in a free style. Gia agreed, eventually turned out to be the most recognizable and scandalous photo session.

Against the background of other famous models of the time, Gia stood out for her character. She chose the project herself, on which she was interested to work. If she did not have the mood or she did not like the image in which she would have to work, she refused. At the age of 18 she appeared on the cover of several well-known magazines. Already in 1979 she appeared in three versions of the magazine Vogue, and also twice in the American version of Cosmo. The cover on which Gia was engraved in a yellow swimsuit in Greek style is considered her best cover.

In 1980, her mentor Wilhelmina died of cancer and this was a big blow for Gia. Depression Gia drowned drugs. Later, she sat down on heroin. From this moment it starts to behave inadequately on photographs, to be late, not to come, to leave early, etc. At the photo session of the November Vogue magazine there was even a scandal, because on her hands there were bright marks from the syringe and photographers had to blot out these tracks.

Gia was looking for happiness, care and love, and only found money and sex. Gia as a supermodel earned a lot of money, but as for her personal life, she was not particularly happy. Many evenings she spent alone and could at any time come to one of her friends.

As for her personal life, she preferred women. Men also interested her, but only fleetingly. Since childhood, she wrote love letters and gave the girls flowers. She was very sensitive and amorous. She could fall in love the first time and achieve the love of her lust, but in most cases this love meant drugs, money. People wanted something from her, but not love.

At that time she was not interested in work, she took four doses of heroin per day, although friends advised her not to do so. However, she signed an agreement with Eylina Ford, but worked under her for only three weeks and was fired (due to disorderly behavior).

At this time, she was only 20 years old. In 1981 she decided to recover from drug addiction. At this time, she meets a student Rochelle, who also was addicted to drugs. Girls begin to be friends, but the harmful influence Rochelle more and more leads Jiy from reality.

In the spring of this year, she is arrested for driving while intoxicated. In the summer she was caught on stealing things from her home, after which Gia again begins to be treated. During the treatment, she learns about the tragic death of Chris Won Wenzhenheim, breaks down, closes in her bath and takes drugs. Gia has been using drugs for several years, her body began to be covered with ugly abscesses.

In 1982, she is on the mend, she is gaining weight and starts to work. Photographers notice that Gia is not the same, in her eyes there is no that fire. Her fees for the photo session were significantly reduced. This year, she gave an interview in which she claimed that she was no longer taking drugs, but she could see from her eyes that she was taking them. Soon after the incident on the shooting in North Africa, her modeling career ended.

In 1983, after finishing her modeling career, she moved to Atlantic City and rented an apartment with her friend Rochelle.

In 1984, she reached the handle and again recorded for treatment. In the clinic, she finds herself a friend of Rob Fahey. After six months of treatment, she moved to the suburbs of Philadelphia. Here she starts working, goes to college courses, but after three months of such a life she fell through.

In 1985, she returns to Atlantic City, increases the dose of heroin used, lacks money and starts prostitution in exchange for drugs (several times she was raped).

In 1986 she enters the hospital with pneumonia. Soon she finds out that she is sick with AIDS and dies in six months. The disease made her body ugly, so she was buried in a closed coffin.

As you can see, Gia's life is a succession of success, big money, narcotic forgetfulness and prolonged treatment. She was looking for love and care, and after she was disappointed in the real world, she began to seek consolation in drugs. Despite her short life, she remembered not only her beautiful appearance, but also unusual photosessions.
