Determine the type of sole
Before starting the procedure, determine what material is made of the surface of the iron, based on this select the appropriate method of cleaning.
Steel soles begin to save immediately, because in the future it will be much more difficult. The easiest way is to use toothpaste. First of all, wait until the iron cools down. Then, with a sharp object, gently cut off the remnants of burnt tissue and apply a toothpaste with a normal brush. Wipe off the paste with a stiff sponge for washing dishes. Nagar will depart along with the rest of the fabric.
For irons with Teflon or ceramic coating, we recommend using a special pencil, which can be purchased at household chemical shops. If you can not find it, use a slice of usual laundry soap. To rub it is necessary still a hot surface of an iron, and to wash off a soap after cooling.
Important! Never try to wipe off the carbon with a knife or emery. On the iron there will be scratches, which in the future will damage delicate things when ironing.
Other methods of cleaning
There are many folk remedies that can be used at home.
- Salt. Pour it on a thick paper to heat the iron and drive them along the paper until the decoction disappears. If the dirt is small, you can simply sprinkle them with salt and thoroughly wipe with a damp cloth. Remember, salt can not be cleaned with irons with Teflon surface.
- Vinegar. To clean a small amount of stash, moisten the rag with vinegar and thoroughly rub the contaminated area. If it is very resistant or covers the entire sole, soak a rag with a bite, press the iron to it and leave it overnight. During this time, the carbon must peel off. It must be taken into account that only cold vinegar can be cleaned with vinegar.
- Paraffin candle. Wrap it in a piece of cotton and grate the hot sole. It is better to keep the iron at an angle so that the paraffin from the candle drains off without getting inside (this is especially important if there are holes for the steam outlet in the sole). After the procedure, remove the dirt residues with a soft rag.
- Sulfur. The iron should be heated, take a matchbox and rub the sole with the side with sulfur. To achieve the best result, use a new box with a single layer of sulfur.
- Soda. Mix it with water, moisten the cotton pad and wipe the cold surface of the iron. Next, rinse the sole with a sponge soaked in clean water.
If, by cleaning the iron, you damaged the ironing surface and there were scratches, the problem can be corrected at home. Just grate the paraffin candle on a small grater, mix it with salt, wrap it in gauze and iron it with a hot iron.
Each of the described methods is effective in its own way, but the best defense is prevention. Therefore, to ensure that your iron has served for a long time and is not covered with carbon deposits, use the correct temperature regime and after each ironing wipe the cooled surface with a damp soft cloth.
