How to teach a child to drink from a cup?

Your karapuz has grown, and it's time to learn to drink from a cup. Act gradually and soon you will succeed! Babies, as a rule, like to drink from a bottle with a pacifier: this causes them to associate with the mother's breast. Surely you've seen even three-year-olds who everywhere carry a bottle with them and every now and then sip juice or compote from it. But this does not have a very good effect on the teeth of the crumbs, since it can cause the so-called bottle caries. We offer you some practical tips that will help your child to say goodbye to your favorite bottle. How to teach a child to drink from the cup yourself - all in our article.

Right moment

For a seven-month crumb, you can offer a drink in a cup. If the first six months you have nursed the baby exclusively with your breast, do not give him a bottle - it is better to immediately offer a cup (for starters, the so-called non-spillable cup). The smaller the child, the easier it adapts to innovation. In this case, the main thing is consistency. If the baby has not finished the proposed drink from the cup, do not give him the rest of tea or juice from the bottle. Also do not allow the crumb to go around with the bottle everywhere.

The right cup

Each karapuza has his own preferences. Someone likes a cup with one ear, someone more like it with two. Perhaps you will have to buy a few cups of non-spills, while the baby chooses the most suitable. This cup is very convenient for a small child, because the liquid from it flows very slowly (so that the baby does not choke). The drinking period from a non-spilled cup should not be long. As soon as the child is comfortable with this dish, start teaching him how to use a regular cup.

How it's done?

Pour in a cup of your favorite drink of crumbs. Show how you yourself drink from a cup (only from your own!). Use the technique of small sips: put a cup to the baby's lips and tilt it so that he can take a small sip. Give him time to calmly swallow the drink. If the young man has a desire to take a nice cup in his hands and try to drink from it, be sure to allow him such an experiment. And in any case, do not scold the crumb if he sheds a drink!

The main thing is the sequence

At each meal, give the baby drinks only from the cup (to start with a cup of non-spillage). At first, he may not drink the whole serving of juice or tea. Sometimes difficulties with the transition from the nipple to the cup lead to a violation of the child's appetite. Do not be nervous and in any case, do not offer a bottle to the bottle, if only he drains all to the last drop from the usual and yet more convenient dishes for him. Just help the child a little: hold the cup or give the remaining drink from the spoon. If the tricks did not help and the karapuz still did not master the whole portion of tea or compote, do not get upset - just offer him to drink more often. Even when he is already starting to drink a little from the cup, it will take several months before the crumb finally stops drinking from the nipple. And remember: a healthy, normally developing baby will always let you know that it is thirsty (even if the crumb does not yet know how to talk).

Tell the bottle "bye!"

When a child has learned to drink from a cup, it's time to part with your favorite bottle. Of course, the hardest part is to say goodbye to the traditional evening drink from it, because it soothes and tends to sleep. And then new rituals will come to the rescue: tell the baby before going to bed, what happened during the day, read the tales, sing the lullabies. Do not forget to praise the karapuza for learning to drink from a cup, tell him what an adult he is and how proud you are of him.

Choose a cup-non-spillweb

Today, the choice of non-spill cups is quite large. Pick up the most convenient for the baby.
