How to teach English to a child

Very often you can hear from parents who have small children, as it would be great if the child studied English since childhood. It's good if parents do not stop at these conversations, but take various actions to teach the child. Now there are many different methods of learning English, many courses, schools, with which you can learn the language. So, the theme of our today's article is "How to teach the child's English language".

If you have the time, desire, and you speak the language, even if it is not perfect, try to learn the language yourself along with the baby. After all, unlike teachers, you are near the child all the time. Classes can be conducted during walks, you can be distracted, interrupted if the child is tired. Pluses from such activities are many. But it should be borne in mind that philologists recommend studying a foreign language only after the child has mastered his native language well.

How to teach English to a child? When learning English, it is better to begin to learn sounds, how to pronounce them, only after that you can begin to study the alphabet. Pay a lot of attention to the pronunciation of sounds first of the native language. The child should feel how the tongue rests against the palate, what kind of sound it produces, and if you change the position of the lips, you get different sounds. Be sure to explain what "stir" or where the language rests on the pronunciation of various English sounds. For example, the sound [t] is similar to Russian, but unlike Russian, when pronounced, the tip of the tongue moves a little further from the teeth and touches only the palate, and not so tightly. Young children may not get interdental sounds - this is due to the change of milk teeth to permanent, do not rush the child. Let him feel the position of the language, eventually he will succeed. When a child gets a new sound, be sure to praise him.

Simultaneously with the sounds one can learn to pronounce words. The first words should be of interest to your baby. Maybe it's his favorite toys or animals that he knows. Well, if you pronounce it, when you say the word. You can take photos, find different pictures. The child, looking at the picture, will learn the word without requiring a translation into his native language. It is better to begin to learn words from nouns, then you can include several adjectives. Adjectives can be taught in pairs: large - small, (show the child two pictures: on one - the elephant, on the other - the mouse), the long one - short, etc. After adjectives, you can enter numbers: from one to ten. Make cards, on each of them, draw one number. Showing the card, simultaneously say how this number sounds in English. It is important that there are not enough words to be easily perceived by the child, so that he understands their meaning. After all, you are only studying the sounds and pronunciation of certain words, ie. prepare the child for reading.

To ensure that the child is not tired from school, make them short, do not force or insist, if you see that the child is tired or not interested in it. After studying the sounds, proceed to the alphabet. The best English alphabet is remembered with the help of a song - the alphabet. Listen to this song, sing yourself and simultaneously show the letter you hear in the song. Letters are better taught in groups, as they go in a song: ABCD, EFG, HIJK, LMNOP, QRST, UVW, XYZ. The song will help memorize the sequence of letters in the alphabet, and this is necessary for using the dictionary; to write a word for dictation; will help when teaching reading. Show the child how to write English letters. Write them in such a way that the child can paint them, circle them. Then ask him to write the letter himself, while explaining what he is doing. For example, the letter Q is a circle with a tail at the bottom. Let these explanations not be very clear to you: "We draw such a wand, then this one," but he says what he does, and it organizes his thoughts. Compare the letters with the surrounding objects, ask the child to say what the letter V or other letter is like. Comparison of letters with different objects, helps to memorize their images. Memorize successful comparisons, then they will serve as prompts when the child forgets a letter. Well remembered letters with the help of games. Make cardboard boxes with the letters of the English alphabet, you can buy magnetic letters, plastic letters, etc. Write a letter on the sheet, and let the child try to find this letter on cards or among magnetic letters. You can take a line from the song - the alphabet, sing it, and the child will show this line with the help of cards.

One more exercise: decompose cards with letters in the English alphabet, but allow one, and then several errors, suggest that the child fix the correct alphabet. Then, with the help of letters, make simple words together first, and then suggest that the child try to formulate a word on his own. You can come up with many different exercises, but do not insist on classes if you see that the baby is not interested or he is tired. Try to change the exercise or take a break. It is very important that the activities for the child are interesting, satisfy his curiosity, only in this case they will be productive.
