Is food harmful from the microwave?

In our everyday life, microwave ovens have appeared relatively recently. And in many houses they became the main equipment in the kitchen with a refrigerator. This is due primarily to convenience. Many microwave models are also designed for cooking various dishes. However, it is worth asking whether food is harmful from a microwave oven?

After the war, the results of medical research conducted by the Germans on the effect of microwave ovens on humans were found. Documents and some models of furnaces were sent to the United States and the Soviet Union for further scientific testing. As a result, in the USSR microwave ovens have been banned for a long time. An opinion was published on the prevention of harmful effects of microwaves on human health. Studies of Eastern European scientists have also confirmed the harmful effect of microwave radiation, on the basis of which strict restrictions on the use of microwaves were introduced.

Microwave ovens are dangerous for children

It was revealed that the amino acid L-proline, which is a part of mother's milk and in a mixture for feeding children, passes into its D isomer under the influence of microwaves. D-proline is neurotoxic and nephrotoxic, that is, it has a negative effect on the nervous system and kidneys of the baby. This problem arises with the artificial feeding of children with milk substitutes, which become very toxic when they are heated in a microwave oven. In the USA, it was found that food heated in a microwave oven retains microwave energy in its molecules, which normally should not be present in foods.

Scientific research

It was reported that people who consumed vegetables and milk cooked in a microwave oven changed blood composition: hemoglobin level decreased, cholesterol increased. The comparison was conducted with a group of people who eat dishes cooked in a traditional way; the composition of their blood did not change.

Dr. Hans Ulrich Hertel has worked for a large Swiss company and has been involved in research of this kind for many years. In 1991, she, along with a professor at the University of Lausanne, published data that food from a microwave oven poses a real threat to human health. After the publication of the article also in the journal Franz Weber, Hans Ulrich Hertel was dismissed from the company for divulging the results of experiments on the malignant effects of microwave ovens on blood composition.

Staging the experiment. Within 2-5 days volunteers on an empty stomach had to eat different foods: (1) plain raw milk; (2) preheated ordinary milk; (3) pasteurized milk; (4) ordinary milk, which is absorbed in the microwave; (5) fresh vegetables; (6) fresh vegetables cooked in a traditional way; (7) vegetables thawed in the usual way; (8) vegetables cooked in a microwave oven. Volunteers took blood samples before and after meals at certain intervals.

Changes in the analysis of blood volunteers were detected in those people who used food, after processing them in a microwave oven. The changes were related to a decrease in hemoglobin level and a change in cholesterol concentration. The ratio of the level of high-density lipoproteins (HDL, normal cholesterol) and low-density lipoproteins (LDL, excess cholesterol) increased toward LDL. The number of blood lymphocytes increased, which indicated inflammatory processes in the blood. Changes in these indicators indicated that degenerative changes occurred in the body of volunteers. It should be noted that the share of microwave energy, which persists for some time in food, consuming it, people are exposed to microwave radiation.

However, on the protection of microwave ovens are their producers who claim that modern production technologies allow minimizing the harm of microwaves. In this regard, experts recommend buying modern models of microwave ovens, which took into account all the nuances of minimizing radiation. It is not recommended to use the microwave oven constantly and do not turn it on if there is a child nearby.
