Planting, growing and caring for marigolds

They are so unpretentious to soil and care that they are grown even along roads or in darkened areas. But, nevertheless, in order for plants to please you with intense and lush flowering, you should consider some basic rules.

  1. In the open ground, seeds should be sown in shallow wells and not very densely. It will be enough to a distance of one and a half centimeter between future plants. After the first leaves appear, transplants can be transplanted. Choose a permanent place, you can even in a dark place, but it is better if the plants will have enough sun.
  2. The distance between adult seedlings should also be large enough, and the depth of the hole - 2 centimeters or more.
  3. Seeds can be bought in the store, but after the first planting, you can collect them yourself, when the marigolds peresvetut.
  4. The rule of early planting is quite applicable to them. Indeed, the earlier you plant seeds in special pots, even in early spring, the earlier you will have seedlings. In May, you can even take out the seedlings in the open air. Thus, the seedlings will adapt to the natural conditions in which they will have to grow in the future.

  5. Plant plants better in loose ground, but it is better not to fertilize the land with fresh manure.
  6. You can decorate even the darkest area with marigolds, but then you will not see a lush bloom. Of course, if there is no other way to fill empty space, these flowers will be a real salvation. Nevertheless, when choosing the soil, it is better to choose well-clarified areas with moderate humidity.
  7. Too intense watering will lead to decay of the plant. But in a dry summer it is better to please your flowers with additional moisture. Water better in the evenings.
  8. Fertilizers can not be made, but if you want to achieve the best result, you can fertilize them with complex fertilizers three times during the growth of the plant. The first time - when the seedlings grow to ten centimeters, the second - when they begin to tie buds, and the last time - at the very beginning of flowering.
  9. Be sure to loosen the soil in the place where marigolds grow. First, it will help plants to breathe. And secondly, it will save plants from weeds.

Diseases and pests of marigolds

Surely, all gardeners know that the flowers of marigolds, like their stems and roots, have a very specific and sharp odor. This gives them a natural protection against diseases from which other garden flowers often suffer. Experienced gardeners are advised to decorate the perimeter of the garden with these flowers. So you protect the rest of the plants from fusariosis and fungal diseases.

But they are also subject to the negative influence of some pests. If marigolds grow in a place that is too dry, a spider mite may appear on them. If too wet - rot. If you notice ticks on them, you need to water them intensively and spray them with special preparations. If they rot or suffer from fungus, you need to drain the area well. Noticing gray rot, which affects large areas, immediately remove the infected flower. But in no case do not bury the plants in the compost pit, because soon there will be small midge and other harmful insects.
