Medical diagnoses and terms

You heard from the doctor obscure frightening words, and my heart clenched anxiously. Calm down, let's understand. When you found out about pregnancy, it seemed to you that nothing could ever overshadow your joy. But the notes that appeared in your medical record puzzled and even scared. Do not panic, because not always behind them are serious diagnoses. And do not rush to study the medical encyclopedias: tacts risk completely entangled in the terminological labyrinth. Ask your doctor for detailed explanations, learn to be distracted from bad thoughts. This little dictionary is our contribution to your good mood.

Low location of the placenta
Usually the placenta is located in the middle or on the top of the uterus. But sometimes it is placed low (above the neck). As a rule, this is an indication for caesarean section, since natural births are impossible. You should know what is placenta previa - a frequent occurrence in the first two trimesters. And it is possible that by the 8th-9th month it will rise. Until the situation clears up, sexual abstinence and tranquility are recommended. And to clarify the diagnosis in the third trimester you need to undergo ultrasound.

Hypertension of the uterus
The uterus is the largest muscle in the female body, which is capable of a powerful contraction. During pregnancy, it should be relaxed (nature takes care of this, strengthening the inhibition of nervous processes). But it happens that a strong stress or just a fright leads the uterus into a tone (the stomach becomes firm, tense). Has this happened to you? Do not worry, almost every future mother felt this for once. But if this condition is repeated often and does not go away after a sedative, persistent pains in the lower abdomen are exhausted and there are abundant secretions - immediately consult a doctor. The reason may be the lack of a pregnancy hormone - progesterone, which requires long-term treatment.
The gynecologist will prescribe corrective hormonal therapy, antispasmodics, constant bed rest, sedatives. And perhaps, hospitalization.

Protein in the urine
The presence of protein in the urine signals not only about late toxicosis - a serious disease, but also about another problem - infection in the urine. Toxicosis is accompanied by high blood pressure, edema, headache and requires hospitalization. The second ailment is quickly eliminated and most often has no serious consequences. Therefore it is extremely important to put the correct diagnosis on time. Doubts will remove additional examinations. Although in any case you should be under the supervision of a doctor, until all the symptoms disappear.

Gluteal presentation of the fetus
Does the kid like to sit in the tummy in the lotus position, and he does not want to turn over his head? Your diagnosis will appear in your card: breech presentation. Did you find out about this until the 36th-37th week? Do not be afraid. Tastes of a crumb can change - and he will perform this gymnastic trick in the last weeks of pregnancy. Especially if you help him: talk to the baby. If your little sloth does not want to do a roll on time, the doctor will recommend special exercises or personally help him.

Very large child
Measuring the abdomen of a pregnant woman with regular medical examination is a traditional procedure. If the doctor sees a serious deviation from the norm, he will send you for additional ultrasound, will more often measure the waist. It may well be that its large size indicates only a special location of the crumbs inside, the specifics of your physiological structure, the rate of development. Even if the baby has grown a hero, there is always a chance to give birth.
The doctor will evaluate your physiological structure, make repeated tests and, probably, allow you to give birth to yourself.

Toxoplasmosis
A positive test result for toxoplasmosis should not scare you. It all depends on which antibody class (IgM or IgG) is found in the blood. A real threat is indicated by the presence of M antibodies. This means that the infection occurred during pregnancy and the baby can suffer. If toxoplasm got into the body before, it's not so serious. After all, now you have immunity to the disease, so crumb practically nothing threatens. It will be necessary to monitor the doctor, re-analysis. If the acute nature of the disease is confirmed many times, serious treatment is necessary.

Increased sugar
The high sugar content in urine is not only a sign of diabetes, but also a confirmation of your addiction to sweets. Eaten on the eve of the analysis, a large package of ice cream will definitely affect its result. But if the diagnosis of "gestational diabetes" is diagnosed, treatment will be required. With such a disease, your body is not able to independently regulate the level of sugar, the baby because of this can prematurely develop.
To clarify the diagnosis, the doctor will send you for a second analysis. If you do not want to get a false diagnosis, give blood on an empty stomach. And before that, do not eat sweet for two or three days.

Gate neck
In normal pregnancy, the cervix performs the function of a retaining ring. She does not allow the fetus to leave her cavity ahead of time. Too short a neck can not withstand the pressure of the growing fetus and open. Then there is the danger of premature birth. At an early stage of pregnancy, the threat is minimal. As the tummy grows, the risk increases.
The doctor will monitor the course of pregnancy. If there is no tonus of the uterus, excretions, pains in the abdomen and lower back, then in the first trimester to go to the hospital is not necessary. The doctor will decide when hospitalization is necessary, whether it is necessary to sew a cervix or put a special ring. This will help to cope with the problem.
