The influence of the computer on the person's eyes

It is impossible to imagine our present world without a computer. He firmly entered our life and greatly facilitated it. However, this achievement of progress led to the appearance of the so-called computerized visual syndrome. About what the impact of the computer on the eyes of a person, and how to reduce its negative impact, and will be discussed below.

It is about the development of persistent changes in the organ of vision with daily repeated loads. The most common complaints are of two types:

• asthenopia, or visual fatigue;

• Dry eye syndrome.

Asthenopic complaints are expressed by the blurring of vision, slow refocusing when shifting the sight from distant objects to near and far, periodic doubling, rapid fatigue when reading, a feeling of heaviness in the eyes. Subsequently, this can lead to a spasm of accommodation and myopia, even in adults. And the reason for everything is not the physical radiation of the computer monitor, but the features of visual work with it. The human eye is designed in such a way that when you look into the distance, your vision is as relaxed as possible, and when you look at objects close to you, you can not do without the active involvement of the eye muscles. This process is called accommodation. At the computer we are forced to strain our accommodative apparatus. And this is still an increased stress of attention and all is burdened by limited mobility of eyeballs.

In addition, the image on the computer screen is very different from the objects of observation, familiar to our eyes. It consists of disperse points - pixels that shine, flicker and do not have clear outlines and borders. To visual fatigue leads and the need to constantly move the look from the screen to the keyboard, to paper text, as well as possible errors in the organization of the workplace.

The second large group of complaints refers to the dry eye syndrome. This sensation of burning, rubbing, feeling of sand or foreign body in the eyes, poor endurance of wind, conditioned air, smoke, red eyes, photophobia, lacrimation or, conversely, a feeling of dryness. The surface of the eye is covered with a thin layer of tear, which performs a protective, nutritional and refractory function. If the composition or stability of the tear film is compromised, discomfort occurs. The above complaints are due to the fact that, firstly, the radiation from the monitor increases the volatility of the tear, and secondly, when working at the computer, we blink less often, which leads to a decrease in the production of tears.

How to help the eyes?

1. First of all, you need to properly organize your workplace. The monitor should be installed at a distance of 35-65 cm from the eyes, and the center of the screen - at 20-25 cm below eye level.

It is desirable that the monitor was with a large screen. The keyboard should be located at a distance of 10-30 cm from the edge of the table, the fingers should be at the level of the wrists, parallel to the floor, and shoulders should be relaxed. The position in the chair or on the chair should be comfortable. It's good if the ceilings and walls are of soft, quiet tones.

Lighting when working with a computer must be present, but not too bright. Any light falling on the screen, regardless of direction, is inherent in spontaneously falling into the eye and causing the effect of lightening the screen (then the black color appears gray, the contrast of the image decreases). Mirror reflection from extraneous light sources creates a glare on the screen. As a result, visual fatigue occurs more quickly, which is the direct influence of the computer on the person's eyes.

2. Do not forget to alternate work with rest! After every hour of work - a break of 5-10 minutes. In these pauses - an easy warm-up for the body and special exercises for the eyes. The maximum duration of continuous work with a computer is 2 hours.

3. If you already have signs of a computerized visual syndrome, visit an ophthalmologist to check your visual acuity and, if necessary, pick up glasses to work on your computer. It is desirable to use high-quality eyeglass lenses with antireflex coating.

4. To prevent the development of dry eye syndrome, you should learn to blink more often. In more pronounced cases of sensation of dryness, sand, you should use special moisturizing drops, so-called tear replacements. Their components restore the impaired properties of the tear film

By the way, the use of liquid crystal monitors somewhat reduces the likelihood of asthenopia, myopia and dry eye syndrome, but does not completely exclude. Observe yourself and teach your children to follow these simple rules so that the computer remains only a friend and assistant in their studies and work! Tell the children about the negative impact of the computer on the person's eye, set the schedule for using the computer. Children under 8 years of stay in front of the monitor is extremely undesirable!
