First aid for poisoning with household chemicals

Over the past few years, the number of poisonings has increased by means that relate to household chemicals: insecticides, cosmetics, detergents, cleaning agents, repellents and others. The consequences of such poisonings for a person can be serious if they do not provide the necessary assistance in time. The first help in poisoning with household chemicals is exactly what will be discussed today.

Insecticides are carbosol, chlorophos, "Antimol", as well as other similar drugs that can be attributed to organophosphorus compounds. They can cause acute and sometimes chronic poisoning.

Chlorophos and carbofos (also known as carbosol), entering the human body through the mouth, disrupt the work of the heart and the nervous system. If the poisoning is very severe, a person loses consciousness and convulsions appear, blood pressure rises, the heartbeats slow down, and breathing may stop.

If the poisoning occurred by inhalation, nausea, dizziness, increased sweating, upset eyesight, the victim is mentally overexcited.

Cosmetics. The composition of cosmetics such as colognes, lotions, hair repair agents, includes wine alcohol, and also ethyl alcohol, which have a very toxic effect on the human nervous system. If they get inward, it threatens you with a violation of breathing and heart activity, alcohol poisoning and a breakdown in the work of the gastrointestinal tract.

Repellents are used against insects that fly. They contain dimethyl phthalate. It, in turn, turns into methyl alcohol, getting into the human body. And the latter breaks down to formic acid and formaldehyde - very toxic substances.

A large dose of repellent causes severe complications. The activity of the respiratory system is broken, the victim loses consciousness. It is possible to stop breathing. Often the optic nerve is affected. It threatens with blindness.

Alkalis and acids. Speaking about the vinegar essence, it can be said that this is an 80% solution of acetic acid, hydrochloric acid, which is part of soldering acid and even bath washing liquid, carbolic acid, oxalic acid, which are contained in the products that destroy rust. Ammonia, caustic soda and caustic potash are the most dangerous of caustic alkalis.

And some acids, getting into the blood, destroy red blood cells - red blood cells (acetic, for example). At this time the body is deprived of the main carrier of oxygen - hemoglobin. It is clear that this is bad for all vital organs.

First aid for poisoning with household chemicals

We remind you! If you are poisoned by any household chemicals, call an ambulance immediately!

Especially it concerns poisoning with alkalis and acids. It is forbidden to wash the stomach by yourself. This will only increase vomiting and cause a laryngeal edema. To avoid the repeated cauterizing action of alkalis and acids, give the person to drink 3 glasses of water. But no more!

You can not "neutralize" these poisons (in the sense, to give the victim a weak alkali during poisoning with some acids and vice versa). During the interaction, these substances create a very large amount of CO2 (carbon dioxide). He, in turn, provokes an even greater stretching of the stomach, as a result - increased bleeding and infernal pain.

If alkali or acid has got on the eye mucosa, lips or skin at all, flush with a large amount of water (about 2 liters). A jet from a kettle or a tap will do.

If there was a poisoning with cosmetic products, stain removers, insecticides, aniline dyes, before the ambulance arrives, you must induce vomiting. Of course, if he is conscious. It is necessary to give the victim to drink 3 glasses of salt water, then with two fingers, which are previously wrapped with a clean cloth, you need to press on the root of the tongue.

But if a person is unconscious, he needs to be laid so that his head is turned on his side. This will not allow the contents of the stomach to enter the respiratory tract. With cramps, tongue sinking, when the jaw is very tightly closed and this prevents normal breathing, gently tilt the person's head, push forward and upward the lower jaw so that he can breathe through his nose.

Preparations of household chemicals, of course, facilitate our domestic work. But careful use does not hurt. Read the instructions carefully and be extremely careful in the application.

You should not build large stocks of household chemicals in your apartment, because no one can guarantee complete tightness of the container.

Very seriously, those people who decide to use insect control agents and various solvents that contain chlorinated hydrocarbons that do not have a license are being pestered. All because even poisoning by inhalation leads to severe consequences.

Some chemical enterprises, producing insecticides in tablets, recommend dissolving them in water. Of course, this does not mean that the chlorophos tablets (for example) need to be dissolved in a glass of water, from which you will then drink. We hope this is clear.

Before you begin to treat the living quarters with insecticides, all utensils and food products should be sheltered, and children and elderly members of the family must temporarily leave the apartment.

Those people who work with insecticides are obliged to protect their mouth and nose with bandages of 4 layers of gauze, but their eyes should cover glasses.

Ventilate the room after treatment.
